Description

Different formats have a strong influence on composition. The squared picture of Composition 3 is an example to illustrate that. Portrait, square, landscape can be categorised as pictures bearing a different aspect ratio. I had to crop this shot to get the effect I wanted, a stronger composition and the panoramic affect adds to it. The one on top is the original shot and the one on the bottom is the cropped and resized version of it. Scroll up and down to see the different effects of the format and the composition. Nice you want to teach people in this way.. Maybe I could share some tips as well, though I'm not as experienced as you.. I do think a lot when I take a picture (Though I should do that less to get more creative shots.. more artist like)

Yep, one can see the difference pretty well! Have to admit sometimes I do a slight cropping, too! But I'm always proud to get the result I was going for just by framing with the cam :o) Excellent shot and explanation again! Thanks! Have a wonderful weekend, Jan-Carel!

aspect ratio is something I need to get a firmer grip upon myself. Even though I do little in the way of photography, I have great need in understanding aspect ratio. Perhaps you should give us another tutorial on how to accomplish High Resolution lower kilobytes (instead of 100K say 80 or 90K?)

i find both of these to be wonderful images, Jan-Carel, and i'm not sure i would have even noticed the difference if you hadn't said anything. Now that i keep looking, i do think i like the 2nd one better, but to me, the differences are minor. I find both to be strong, beautiful images and you've done a fantastic job composing them!!! :)

The footing looks no more secure in either. I'll have to take the opinion of the guide on where to step and how far to hold back.

Much appreciated lesson here in aspect ratio, something that could improve many images...Thanks for these eye opening lessons, I'm sure it will make us all look at our images a little closer from now on. Aloha~

You're right about the crops, I never croped mine, but now I've seen your 2 images, I'll think about for some of mine. Thanks for the explanations. I like both of your shots anyway !
