Not much to say, really. Since I can remember, I've been busy doing art. I’ve had a long successful career as a commercial artist, illustrator, art director, creative director, animator, animation producer and director. After 30 years as a professional, I’m very familiar with all aspects of both 2D and 3D art.

Being taught ‘on the job’ through most of my life by mentors has instilled in me the desire to become one myself. For the past seven years I’ve been working on my fine art and most recently my training has been by master painters Brian Davis and David A. Leffel. I have sincere gratitude for the joy in creating beauty through my work and to share the insights it brings with my students and other artists.

I love to teach the fundamentals that have been overlooked for so long here in the US. Teaching for the past two years at the Nevada Museum of Art classrooms has been a honor. My classes include, Learning Color and Color Theory, Painting 1 - Oils, Painting 2 - Oils, Composition: the basics through Dynamic Symmetry, Plein Air - Capturing the light, Perspective Drawing and Learning to Draw.
Being this is primarily a digital site, I thought I would say a bit about how I work within this realm. I start each new work from a bunch of pencil or pen sketches. Once I have the design on paper I scan it into the computer using digital paint programs. I then check the composition using the principals of Dynamic Symmetry. Once I'm satisfied with the composition, I start assembling the elements. I shoot what I can from nature such as trees. Many times I have to wait for days to get the right angle of the light for the shot. I shoot anything I can on table-top like rocks for boulders and cliffs. Then it's on to compositing and a ton of balancing color harmony. Once the layout is complete, I print it out placing it next to the canvas. I start the painting by sketching the design in very thin oil or Acrylic paint and then paint directly in the Ala Prima (in one sitting) tradition. Once the painting has been completed and dried, I finish with a coat or two of varnish. I hope this all makes sense.
