Ever since I started working on architectural vizualizations back in 89, customers (mostly architects) wanted me to "breath life" into
inorganic objects. The image of the building (or whatever project it may be) should cause positive emotions in the person looking at it. Since
the architecture usually is already entirely defined, there are just a few "parameters", I could use to achieve that effect. Basically it comes
down to Light and Point of View. Considering that architects usually do not have much interest in viewing their creations through fisheye -
lenses or thick fog, often theres not much to choose from.
So I tried to reverse the entire process: I was looking for a way to create a certain emotion at the very start, and then find an environment,
which accompanies (or even emphasizes) this certain emotion afterwards. The idea was to create virtual architecture, which is secondary to a
"key player" and, contrary to the real world, is not meant to last for a long period of time, but just for one single moment.
You may wonder, why I chose fineart-nudes to be the "key-players" in this project ?
There are a couple of reasons: first of all, to be honest, fineart-nudes have always been a strong attracion to me. At the age of 14 or 15 I
visited an exhibition of works by Robert Mapplethorpe in Venice, Italy - since then I studied a lot of contemporary artists and especially the
fascination of black and white photography never subsided.
To use female nudes also seemed appropriate, because I wanted to create a specific contrast between the cold, often hostile environment,
and the warm and very human emotion of the "key player". To me, the female body also acts as the opposite to the logic, structured, and
synthetic world of the computer, which still is my tool and media of choice.
Later I also introduced males to the series, because finallly I felt sort of limited with the original concept (which still remains the base of the
work, anyway).
