In 2002 I was forced to give up conventional employment, despite a degree in accounting with a minor in visual arts (design and painting). While this eradicated my income, it gave me a surplus of another treasure - time.
I've put this extra time to good use, trying to bring a dream to life: I want to develop and publish a video game. In 2004 I finished my design document, and in 2005 I purchased the core game engine I'll be using. By the middle of last year, basic gameplay had been programmed, and I'd developed "programmer art" as placeholders.
Although there is still much to be done from a coding perspective, I altered focus for a time. In December of last year I began examining ways of bringing the visions in my head onto the screen. Although my game is 2d, I long-ago realized that using and posing 3d models, and then rendering them as sprites would be significantly less time-consuming than hand-drawing each and every cell. I examined many modeling alternatives, but my modeling isn't strong enough to complete the figures yet. To this end, a friend introduced me to Daz Studio and I've been hooked since Christmas.
Not only have I more-fully developed character concepts, created promo art and begun getting sprites and scenes into the game; but I've also become hooked on downloading templates and retexturing clothes. What began as a means to an end, has now become a full-blown hobby in its own right, and I'm loving every minute of it!
My website is here: www.netjersoft.com and I'll be updating the project sections with revised art very soon.
