"What 3D Program Should I buy?" Not one person here can really tell you what's best for you, as everyone has their own taste in workflow. Try the demo or learning edition of the program you're interested in, this is the only way to find out which programs you like.
Thanks Sharen. Yes, we generate all our models on the Mac. The strange thing is, Bryce has no trouble seeing the file formats, but Poser just opens a blank, empty folder in the import dialogue box! I'm asking the same question in various forums around Renderosity, so hopefully someone will have the answer. VH
I will indeed go anywhere I can get an answer! To answer your question Sharen, yes, Macs read .obj files, but Poser isn't seeing any of the file formats - .3DS or .DXF as well as .OBJ. VH
I totally don't understand, the only thing I can think of is your model is not centered or too small to read or maybe to large and it is overhead on the y axis, I know you said nothing is reading, but it is a shot, and maybe try this - can you convert your model to a phi file and then try to convert the phi file, see if poser sees it then. Sharen
hmm.you seem to be useing the most up to date version. perhaps the import/export plug-ins have becom corrupted. That has happened to me before and I just re-installed Poser and it rebuilt the files. Naturally that would be a lst resort . I'd poke around the Mac forum and gather more info before I did that. I'm sorry I can't be of more help. Best of luck 8 ) Tom
“The fact that no one understands you…Doesn’t make you an artist.”
ITS A MIRICALE! Firts it got even stranger, when going back to Poser it could see the files, but would freeze when trying to open them. That got me to thinking there might be a system problem. I ran Norton, and low and behold... there was. So all is now peachy! Thank you all for your time and trouble and I hope soon you might be enjoying some of our models. Best wishes and a Merry Christmas, VH

Now just accept that we're thick when answering this question: We've started to create historically accurate models for research and to sell to as many formats as possible at the Marketplace including Poser. The model in the picture - an Italian 'Cassone' wedding box of the 14th. century- was created in Cinema 4D (Mac), but on trying to imported any of the file formats it has been saved in - .obj, .3DS, .dxf - to Poser Pro Pack (Mac) it doesn't see them as exsisiting. Nothing! We've tried both R7 and R8 versions of Cinema 4D, but with no luck. Anyone know what we're doing wrong? Thanks to all, VHwww.makwilson.co.uk
