Nice model! I wouldn't want to run into THAT on a distant planet! ;> It seems to have some chunks taken out of it, presumably in past fracas's. Then it should also have some grease stains, maybe some burn marks where the other lasers bounced off it, and I would tone down the shininess. A little more dirt here and there, daily living kind of stuff. Just MHO. Will it be animated?
It's really cool. Kind of cute in a menacing sort of way.... I think what makes it look too perfect to me is the reflectivity in the shader. Some of the detail mentioned above would take care of the other comment that I'd make, which is that I'm not entirely sure how big it is; about the size of a grapefruit? Or is it the size of an armadillo? Or maybe a large, overstuffed 1972 bean-bag chair? Or a house? It's a little tough to tell. But the modelling is REALLY cool. Great attention to detail. - Dex
Thanks for all the input. I removed most of the reflectivity and shininess to the model and that has helped substantially. I like the idea of grease and dirt stains and have been working with the turbulence option in various spots of the shader tree and have not quite gotten the results I've wanted. Your right kelley I do plan to put some more detail to it and something like inspection ports or venting is what I had in mind. I will be keeping the little point feet however, I might change the joint area where the legs meet the body so it will be a ball joint instead of the flat discs. As far as scale goes I think a little larger than a bean-bag chair is how I view it. I can also see adding some rivets not sure about that yet. Be looking for it in the gallery in the next couple a days. Thanks for all the advice very helpful. Happy Holidays. memaci
