Hi everybody, Sadly I can't see your work lately, here is a copy of the message I send to the renderosity yesterday, after 24 hours I had not recived reply yet...I hope I'll find a solution or I'll beed to quit your nice community... Cheers, Luc2 Hi team, I recently start to post and exchange with other member of the fractal community on your site, my user name is Luc2, from the beginning I had some problem with the reception of the site: some thumbnail are always missing until I check an image and go back to the gallery, when I clic a thumbnail to see an image most of the time I need to make a multiple reload to be able to see the image. In the last 2 day it's worst than ever it's impossible to see a thumbnail or an image. I use a Mac on a cable connection the problem existed independently of the OS ( 8.6, 9, X) or the browser ( IE, Netscape ) I tried. I make some test with other gallery before bothering you but the problem existed only with your site??? I hope we will find a solution because I really like your site. You must have a slow connection. It's timing out. You have to fix it probibly. IE is worse for stuff not showing up than netscape but they both do it because the time before it gives up is set by the operating system. Instead of reloading the entire page again and again is just right click on a thumbnail and pick view in new window then when it shows up click the back button and it will be there. You got to hack Windows to get it to work right on a slow connection. I don't have a clue on how to do that on a mac. I see you got cable? Is it high speed or the new slow as snails economy speed? My buddy has that new system and I tested it and it's as slow as dial up. It's a waste of cash. It tests and I quote " If the speed was any worse it would not be classed as broadband " Now having said all that you're in luck cause there is millions of places on the web to help you tweek you internet connection so it does not do what it's doing. Do a search on google. You can test your connection yourself here plus lots of links to go to to tweek you setup. Your going to have to look around because I only know where windows links are. You're going to have to look for mac links yourself. Since your on cable your ISP is suppose to mirror it. They have a local cache. Something is wrong somewhere.

I just remembered this My buddies cable does the same exact thing. You have to hit reload about 10 times before a complex page shows up. It's the cable companies slow speed. Before they had the economy slow as snails system that did not happen on cable hardly ever.

Hi Luc2, I sure hope there's a solution somewhere. I know that the cable company I'm wiht is very slow. They also don't seem to know how to route internet traffic very well and that has caused lots of problems for me in the past. There are a couple things you can do to test. Are you familiar with network or internetwork utilities? They will show you which routing path (all the servers and routers you go through to get here). You can then compare the speeds from router to router when you go to this site and when you go to the other sites. The other thing to find out is if your internet provider caches pages. I know with my cable company if I can't even get to Renderosity I try with my dialup account and because it is with a different provider I have no problem to get here. Hope this makes sense and good luck, I don't like to see anyone get frustrated with something that should be a wonderful experience.

Tx a lot for all the answer. Yes it could be my connection but what puzzeling me is that happen only with Renderosity I visit a lot of gallery and I never experience this problem I often get DL speed of 380 k/s. An other thing befor it was only some thumbnails that don't show and if I reload the image couple of time I can finaly see it and I can live with that ,but since tuesday it's impossible to see a thumbnail or an image whatever I do? Cheers, Luc

Your speed is ok man. My buddies was way down at ugh ! And that was cable too ! That's why I tested it. Now it gets really hard. You got to do a trace route. Tell you what happened to me I moved my web site then on 9/11 Yup that day I could no longer download any files. I did a trace route and found that the packets where being lost at a 100% rate in California. I wrote everyone trying to get it fixed. I never did get it fixed. I gave up and over about 8 months I change isp's and hey I can download files again. I think the company that was running that router went bankrupt or something. I even got routers before them to write them and tell them their router was down and reset it. I should not be doing that, My isp should be doing that on my behalf. I used a really expensive program to trace it. It gave me a map and times and ip's and e-mails even of every single packet so I could forward that info to the router companies and they could understand cause I had documented proof that it was broken. Phone your ISP and tell them you are having problems connecting to renderosity.com and that it now impossible to connect and maybe they will do a trace route for you on your behalf. It's probibly the same thing that happened to me between you and here is a dead router. Your speed is fine that's not the problem. See my speed was fine 3 meg a sec but I could still not download a single 10k file from my web site. My web site worked perfectly cause other people had no problem connecting to it.

Ya got bit by the cookie monster ! I wouldn't have thought that would be the problem. But it makes sence because it track views and other information with them. I'll have to remember that..

firefly ( ) posted Sat, 21 December 2002 at 8:29 PM

Wow! I too thought it was a packet loss isssue! Glad you figured it out and shared your discovery with us Luc2! Thanks :) I'm sorry cookies upset you but they really are the useful at times.

tresamie ( ) posted Sun, 19 January 2003 at 11:18 PM

Luc, you can always just turn them on to get here, then delete them and turn them off when you go! ;)

Fractals will always amaze me!
