Subject: re-post: Speaking of MOCAP ---- A bunch for free...

poserpro ( ) posted Thu, 26 December 2002 at 12:03 AM · edited Mon, 02 December 2024 at 10:35 AM

I spent about 4 hours yesterday, and dlded more than 500 BVH from the lists at that site. BTW, don't bother to dld "Boxing" as they are invalid files, I tried some and all failed to load correctly in C4D and Poser. AND Judy is no problem to accept the other valid BVH files.

Dave-So ( ) posted Thu, 26 December 2002 at 12:12 AM

which files work in Poser??? And , do all the files need to be downloaded, or just the BVH files....there are 3 files to each group

the exact number I have dlded is more than 600, and i didn't dld all of them :), so it could be more than a thousand, long(20f) or longer... This is the sample tested with one of the BVH for millenium figure and use Poser 5 to do the cloth SIM. See, isn't it nice and "free":P

and now for P5's Don. The animation total count has been reduced by 2 frams, so it looks kind of fast thn usual. And, don't mind the floor.

".... I spent about 4 hours yesterday, and dlded more than 500 BVH from the lists at that site.... " Well, I've read this post a few times and find it quite interesting. A question - - when you refer to "that site..." what is the site? Do you have an URL you can share? Maybe this was in a previous post, but so far I have not located it. thanks.

What type of file do I download, they all have weird file extensions, I can't find the BVH files. Also do I choose other programs. They have a Maya section but I was confused at what link to choose.

anek ( ) posted Thu, 26 December 2002 at 9:00 AM

I picked the 3d Studio max link and the bhv file showed up. Happy Holidays to all.

Marque ( ) posted Thu, 26 December 2002 at 9:07 AM

So where are they? Don't see them there. Thanks, Marque

Marque ( ) posted Thu, 26 December 2002 at 9:13 AM

Got any coffee? Marque

Marque ( ) posted Thu, 26 December 2002 at 9:17 AM

Ok, I'm stupid, no coffee whatever. All I get is a grey screen with a graph on it...no files just a bunch of subcatagories. What am I doing wrong?? Thanks, Marque

Online Now!

I have a really dumb question about the dlded of the files. After I add it to my cart, click the link I get the text file showing. Do I just copy and past it? If so what file format and extension do I save it in? Forgive my ignorance but I am blonde. Thanks in advance.

poserpro ( ) posted Thu, 26 December 2002 at 11:15 AM

--in the subcategory, pick your favourite pose( like walk) --it hs head, shoulder...., pick again. --there are some pose names with preview icon, select the one you need, it will add to the cart in the right frame --a 'get it free" shows up, click to enter --a summery page at the left frame shows up, browse thru to the bottom of page, and click to get it --at the same frame, a confimration page tells you what file you just picked( with *.umf extension), that's it, click. --again at the same page, you are directed to a ftp page with the file info( usually in the name like both 0000006.umf and 0000006.bvh), just get the bvh, irnoring the umf. voila, and enjoy the free poses.;) --

poserpro ( ) posted Thu, 26 December 2002 at 11:18 AM

file_37972.jpg

here are the steps with images to guide your thru : 1.pick the "3d max" link.

poserpro ( ) posted Thu, 26 December 2002 at 11:21 AM

file_37973.jpg

2. enter this bvh page, see the category ? for example, pick "dance", a "cartoon" sub appears,

poserpro ( ) posted Thu, 26 December 2002 at 11:22 AM

file_37974.jpg

3. pose page appears, see the preview poses ? pick the one you like. ( like cradle dance)

poserpro ( ) posted Thu, 26 December 2002 at 11:23 AM

file_37975.jpg

4. an item is added to the left, click "get for free".

poserpro ( ) posted Thu, 26 December 2002 at 11:25 AM

file_37976.jpg

5, a "you rorder" page shows at the left, click to enter approval page, see the fle name cradledance.umf? lick get for free.

poserpro ( ) posted Thu, 26 December 2002 at 11:27 AM

file_37977.jpg

6. see the file name in the ftp page ? just the bvh one, and save it to your folder. you may like to cetegorize for clearance.

poserpro ( ) posted Thu, 26 December 2002 at 11:28 AM

better to use " save as a link " at the right mouse click ( in IE or Netscape).

poserpro ( ) posted Thu, 26 December 2002 at 11:30 AM

and don't bother to dld "boxing" and all"cylcling" poses, they are invalid to poser and c4d.

poserpro ( ) posted Thu, 26 December 2002 at 11:36 AM

file_37978.jpg

you can also see the frame counts at the motion page at the left as well as the cart page at the right, so you have idea how long it loads to poser and c4d. And, excuse for the typos at the guildline.

poserpro ( ) posted Thu, 26 December 2002 at 11:39 AM

file_37979.jpg

and you can pick the cart icons for your favourite motions, and the cart will acclumate to the right page. so it saves some time ( sure you may find it slow, assuming many people are online simultaneously after this post from the day one). anyway, the BVH filesa are offered free as they site states. :)

lmckenzie ( ) posted Thu, 26 December 2002 at 12:36 PM

This is a great resource. For some reason, I can't see the bvh downloads using the MAX entrance, only uml, c and h types. I've been downloading the uml versions and converting them to bvh using their converter which also serves as a nice little viewer for the motions. My only real nag is that the filenames (at least the ones I see) are just numbers and I find no way to tie them back to the descriptive names. Strangely, the boxing ones are the only ones I've seen that keep the descriptive names and as stated, they don't work in Poser. If you open one in a text editor, the headers look the same as the ones that work so I'm not sure what the problem is. It might be a good idea to go easy on downloading these and not grab too many at once. There's some great stuff here and I'd hate to have them look at a huge jump in bandwidth and decide to stop giving then away. Just a thought.

Great resource! Has anybody figured out how to cross reference the filenames to the descriptions or to d/l the sample motion views?

Here are some others. Only tested a couple. One had an error but worked fine anyway. The Celeb's are really nice. Has anyone found a free bvh viewer?
