Subject: Help saving new faces in the Face Menu for V3.

I have made several new faces for V3. Adjusted the face, eyes, lips, etc. the way I wanted them to look. Clicked on the head to select it and went to my FACE MENU and saved them. They all showed up as thumbnails ok. When I went back into Poser 4 tonight to use one of them, I brought up V3, applied the texture I wanted, then went into the FACE MENU and double clicked on one of the faces I made earlier today. Nothing happened. None of the ones I saved worked. Could anyone please tell me the steps to save the faces in the Face Menu so I can do these over again? Thanks for any help you can give me. BJ

I haven't tried to save faces separately from figures yet so I may be wrong here, but... Have you reloaded the face morph injection sets before trying to apply the new face? If not, that may be your problem. AFAIK, you have to load in all the morphs you want to use before applying anything else, unless you have already saved out a version of V3 with your morphs pre-injected.

You have to inject the daz morphs into Vics head first, then apply the face file. Then you'll have your face :). Laurie

So I make a face/body, clean dials, save it. next session 1) open V3 2) reload inj face/body morphs 3) apply saved face/body morph 4) clean dials 5) apply textures etc Do I have it right?

"unless you have already saved out a version of V3 with your morphs pre-injected." I'm a little confused, what are we talking about here?

LaurieA ( ) posted Tue, 31 December 2002 at 12:31 AM

Philywebrider: Some folks (as I have, because I have the HD space) have saved a version of vicky with all the morphs loaded into their Figures folder so that all they have to do is load that morph-injected figure into their document rather than loading the non-injected Vicky and then waiting for the morphs to inject. It saves a little time :o). Laurie

LaurieA: Sounds like a good idea, thanks. Phily

Okay, I think I'm being dense here, now I'm confused. So I load V3 along with some morphs, I play with the dials and I make myself a new character. I can no longer just save her into the face folder, if I'm making a face? Can I save her as a character and put her into my figures folder? Or do I have to remember what morphs I've used and reload them into a new V3? Help, now I'm very confused. Pendy

You can save her as a character and put her in your figures folder. I think after a while, though, you'll find there are some morphs you use all the time. You can load those up and save that character as a figure and give it a name you'll remember. Then use her to make faces. Save the faces to the Face library, and only apply them to her. You can still add extra morphs to her. At some point we'll all figure out how to put morph injection instructions into Face files. So then all we'll need is an empty V3, apply a Face and it will also inject the reguired morphs. But we ain't there yet.

Spit ( ) posted Tue, 31 December 2002 at 2:32 AM

ooops. And to make things easier, when you save Faces for her give them the same name you gave to the figure you made the faces on. So load up an empty Vicky 3, inject the morphs you think you'll use the most. Save her as a cr2 to the figures library and name her, like, Kiren. Then when you want to make faces load up Kiren, make your face, and save the face to the Face library with the name Kiren_001 or something like that. Then you'll know you need the Kiren figure to apply the Kiren face to. Hope that makes sense. It's getting late..

Spit has a good solution. Unlike previous versions of Victoria, Vicki 3 does not load with all her available morphs. So you inject them. Say you inject the French and Celtic head morph. Make a face using a combination of the two morphs, then save it. For that face file to work each time, you need to have the French and Celtic morph loaded onto V3. I have done what LaurieA has. Injected the whole kit and kaboodle and saved V3 fully loaded to the figures library. This ensures my face files work each time. Mind you it does make the cr2 very hefty in size (125MB or there abouts) which is why Spit has a great solution. Helen

There is obviously a way to make MOR files that automatically injects the morphs needed when you load it from the Pose library. There is a V3 character for sale at RuntimeDNA (she's called April) that uses this technology. You only need the expression morphs pre-injected in Victora 3, everything else is injected with the MOR files. I haven't bought this character (yet) so I can't dissect the files and see how they solved it though.

Why is no-one (seemingly) making stndard Poser morphs of their finished character heads, and applying those morphs to an unloaded Victoria and saving that as "Kiren" etc. etc? Wouldn't that be a faster character to load, and take fewer resources?

This was discussed in another thread further down (link above), but the trick is to manually edit the MOR pose to include the "readScript" lines for the morphs you need to inject. -- Mark

Thanks for all your help.

V3 sure uses up a lot of space and takes much ram but I do love her so much. I'll get use to her just like I did V1 and V2. I guess it's just learning a couple of new steps.

Appreciate it.

I just downloaded Visual Silence's April for V3 the other night from RDNA. I looked at the MOR pose file in a text editor to see how the morph injection issue was answered. All of the morphs needed to create the April character are injected along with the morph parameters all in the same doc. I tried it with a V3 character I'm working on and it works great! Sad part is that it's rather tedious to fish through a pz2 file to find what morph dials you used to create the character and then create the injection for that morph.

I get the injection morph, but what is Rem?

LaurieA ( ) posted Tue, 31 December 2002 at 9:31 AM

But the MOR files will not work in plain Poser 4, will they? :o(. I don't have PP. Laurie

yggdrasil ( ) posted Tue, 31 December 2002 at 10:00 AM

Philywebrider, INJ(ect) a morph into V3 to use it, and REM(ove) and unused morphs if you change your mind. LaurieA, V3 works with P4, so any MOR file based on the V3 technology should as well. (I think rbtwhiz said that "readScript" has been floating around since P3 days) -- Mark

Philly - Rem is "Remove". It's strips out the morphs you don't want to use in your figure.

pendarian ( ) posted Tue, 31 December 2002 at 11:25 AM

Laurie A..the mor files do definately work in pure Poser 4, that's what I use and I have April and she works great! I'm still not quite understanding what I have to do in order to make and save characters the way I used to with Vic2 (I have lots of my own characters that I use in my artwork) But I'm going to go play with her for a bit and see if I can get my brain to wrap around what everyone is saying. Obviously it's not near as easy and convenient as it is with V2....some things I wish they would have left alone...sigh..... But I love V3 she's a nice mesh .... Pendy
