Sorry, I'm gonna rant..... Like a few of the 'oldsters' I haven't posted in the gallery for a little while. Some of this is to do with the low turnout of pictures I do at the moment, a lot of it is to do with the pictures in there..... sorry, I'm not meaning or wanting to offend anyone, but it's getting really 'snapshotty' in there..... and today, I see the second page of thumbnails and think "What is going on?" The best 'photographic' thumbnail there by far was Nature42 by Surgeon - yet it had the 2nd lowest number of hits!?! Is it getting to the stage where novelty is a better catch than art itself? (I'm not even going to mention "t*ts for hits", I think everyone here knows how I feel about THAT score..... maybe I should get Barbie & Ken back out?!? lol) Sorry, had to get that off my chest...... (",)

LOL!......awww....honey it's OK.....the gallery has been a bit of a sore point for me too these days....I often feel as if I'm not in the photo gallery but rather in the 2D or Mixed Medium gallery, for lack of actual "photos" to look at. Did you notice the gallery header? That is there as a reminder to folks to consider where their images should go. It is hard for starshuffler and I to move images based on our own thoughts or opinions, unless an image is obviously in the wrong gallery we tend to leave them where they are. As far as snapshotty shots....well we are all at different levels shrug. I seem to recall the gallery as always having it's fair share of family album type shots....I think some of our more talented photographers have moved on to other places (frickin shame too) therefore the lack of "top-notch" stuff, not actually more of the former. And for the T&A....No Comment....:~/

I second the motion.... and yes I'm ready to take flak as I don't post a lot to the gallery or to my personal gallery. I feel I get a better feedback posting right here and if anybody wants to revisit a pic, just post "hey Jack what ever happened to that picture of the blue whachamacallit?".... With that said, I do enjoy seeing all of the stuff in the gallery as it is an interesting insight into what makes people tick, but I also enjoy the creative endeavors as well. So EVERYBODY keep taking pics and posting them whether they be of my dog "Spot" or the sunrise on a cold winter's day. There's more than enough room for everybody!

PunkClown ( ) posted Tue, 14 January 2003 at 7:03 PM

There's more than enough room for everybody...well said Jack, I know what Mike means, but I'm just as guilty as the next photographer, not posting my shots (not that they're great, but hopefully they aren't "happy-snaps" either) I suppose if we want to see more PHOTOGRAPHS as opposed to snapshots, them we should all be taking the time to post them in the galleries...just my 2c :-)>

Michelle A. ( ) posted Tue, 14 January 2003 at 7:10 PM

Thats right so start posting!!!! Make me happy!!

P.S. If anyone sees anything that is blatantly 2d or mixed-media please IM me and I'll happily move them to the appropriate galleries...if they are "line-ball" I'll consult with the "photo-mods-with-the-most" ;-)>

cynlee ( ) posted Tue, 14 January 2003 at 7:27 PM

I was wondering the same thing- all the recent comments posted about "maybe this would be get more viewings in the MM gallery"? Guess it goes back to the post about when is a photo not a photo anymore- seems the consensus was it's up to the photographer- although I do have to agree, when a photo goes way beyond being manipulated that it doesn't resemble a photo anymore then it should be posted in the MM or 2D gallery...I have a problem with that too...& that is the photo was an image I took & manipulated in a photo-enhancing program- not a scanned image of a magazine ad model or a stock photo I manipulated but an original piece from beginning to end. (not that the images used in 2D or MM are not original either) Maybe I'm off here, but I have noticed a difference in the gallery & was wondering the same thing- My own & others have been suggested to move some of their images as has any image that has been manipulated too much-so I guess my question here is- if special effects are used does that mean it needs to be posted in MM or 2D? Where do we draw the line? I agree about the T&A, but as long as it's done in good taste I'm not opposed to this. I figured the decision to move some of these more "enhanced" photos were to make room for all the ppl who've gotten digitals for Christmas which may make a big influx on the photo gallery...maybe...I don't know...you think they could at least clean them up so they're not so pixalated- but then that's what they're there for- to learn & get helpful criticism- K- well, there's my rant & rambling... so is it just me?

jacoggins ( ) posted Tue, 14 January 2003 at 7:52 PM

ok, I broke down and added a new image....in the gallery. it's not heavily manipulated, no PS, just cleaned up a little with DCenhance to get the mood right. No fractals, no whatzits, just a simple little image.....but can you tell me what it is?

Masema ( ) posted Tue, 14 January 2003 at 7:56 PM

Well I'm brand new here and also to photography. But it seems like a hot topic. I guess my only comment on this would be to take it on a case by case basis. Sorry if that's taking the easy way out :)

Michelle A. ( ) posted Tue, 14 January 2003 at 8:20 PM

There is a fine line and it's different for all of us. Of course it is up to the individual to post where they see fit. There is no law that say manipulated images have to be posted in any particular gallery.......however, the 2D and Mixed Medium are there for a reason and people need to keep that in mind when uploading images. that is the photo was an image I took & manipulated in a photo-enhancing program- not a scanned image of a magazine ad model or a stock photo I manipulated but an original piece from beginning to end. (not that the images used in 2D or MM are not original either) Hmmm....I never thought there was a difference in a photomanipulations (all original or borrowed bits and pieces).......I wish Bonbon still had her gallery here (another talent gone)....she was the Queen of photomanipulation....all the work was her own from start to finish, yet she posted these works of art in the 2D gallery.... she uploaded her unmanipulated images into the photo gallery. I'm not saying that everyone should do it that way... I'm just say that is how she did it....

I am, therefore I create.......

cynlee ( ) posted Tue, 14 January 2003 at 9:56 PM

ah- funny you should mention Bonbon- when I first started here, not that long ago I was very impressed by her gallery & very much influenced by her- she was "my very first comment" & I remember being oh so humbled that someone with her artistic & photo sense would comment on one of my works- whatever happened to her? sigh I just hate when good ppl disappear that is an ideal to consider, post the original in photo & the manipulated one in 2D or MM I know I'm pushing the limits, I will take more time to consider this I certainly have barely scratched the surface in photography, although I've been in & out of it for yrs. & have been having fun experimenting with what computer manipulation can do there's certainly room for everyone so, yep, bring it on! -photographs, snapshots, enhanced, semi-manipulated, & semi-nude?(with nudity warning!) the good, bad, & the downright ugly? hopefully the person will come away a better photographer with a little helpful criticism or friendly tip Thanks for putting up with me :) Cindy zzzzzzip! (zipping it up! not another peep outta me) luv ya!

PunkClown ( ) posted Tue, 14 January 2003 at 10:16 PM

from what I last heard, bonbon was extremely busy in TRW, taking on a new job and so forth...I do hope she comes back as she is a very talented artist, and a really nice person too! :-)>

I have been uploading at renderosity for some time . I suppose I am a snap shot person . I take pictures every day with my camera . I don't leave home without it. I catch some good things, and a lot of bad. I also upload enhanced photography. I believe a picture that is generated by a camera is a photo. Even If you enhance it . It still Is a photo . Can that be said about the stuff in the 2d gallery ? " I am not really sure .Do they start with a photo ? Or just a rendering program ? I have always uploaded in the photography gallery . I think It should be up to the artist to decide where to put a enhanced photo . They are the one who did It , and they know just how much they did to It .When you scan a film photo you have enhanced it. Some people don't even consider a digital camera , photography . So maybe we should have a digital gallery, and a beginner digital gallery . A gallery for only film photography ,and a beginner film photography . A gallery for digital enhanced pictures , and a beginner digital enhanced pictures . A gallery for film enhanced, and a beginner film enhanced .and what ever else comes along .Or maybe we should just have fun , work on our art .There is plenty room for every one . "Could this problem be a competitive thing ?" I have been asked " * don't yah think I would get a better reaction If I posted some things in the 2d gallery * I am not here for reaction . I am here to enjoy my art . I have never been to this forum. This Is a first time for me . I am usually busy working on pictures .I process and up load about 9 to 16 pictures a day .I enjoy my art .I think I said more than 26 cents worth .By the way what ever happen to Bonbon? I always enjoyed her comments and her art. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

tricksta ( ) posted Wed, 15 January 2003 at 2:28 AM

With digital cameras more affordable and the ease of pluging it straight into your computer, then of course you are going to get more wannabe photographers who take a heck of alot snapshots (like myself) who find it easy to post there stuff in a gallery!!!! And quoting a line from the top 'We do not limit this forum to any one style or form of photography, and we strongly encourage people of all levels and interests to participate' Also isnt that why we have comments boxes so we can air are views JordyArt????? Surley if your an Oldie then you sould be giving comments of support and encoragement for this new wave of photographer??? I think its a silly subject that can go on forever! And its up to Moderators if the work should stay in the Gallery or Not? Which Michelle A has explained.

JordyArt ( ) posted Wed, 15 January 2003 at 7:23 AM

No, no no - we shouldn't be diversifying and creating more galleries/forums, that's probably half of the problem...... The more galleries you've got with pretty much the same amount of people means less pics - and more work. Dunno, part of me dying off a little while ago was the fact quite a few people went to the 2D side - no offense, coz it's a cool section - but it meant spending more time. And sorry, but like I said, RR isn't the fastest of sites. I've always posted my manipulated photo's in the photography gallery, as long as you could tell it was a photo, and my 'drawn' pics etc in the 2D..... that's just personal preference. aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh........ rant over, chilled, feel better. Thanks guys. At least I know it wasn't just me going mad...... madder...... (",)

As far as I can see Bonbon is still busy producing beautiful art...I currently have one of her newest creations as my desktop wallpaper....and we speak to each other and still comment on eachothers work. She and I both frequent another website which shall remain nameless....but as for her reason as to why she left I am unsure, as I never asked. I've never been very good with acronyms Cam.....what is TRW please? And I agree with tricksta this could be debated forever.....just use your judgement folks and if any of us mods feel it needs to be moved we will move it.....simple as that.

oh, btw tricksta - not having a go or anything, but the link I put in my opening comment here shows that I'm more than happy to comment on an individual picture when I think it's good.... I don't think me (or anyone else) putting negative comments on individual pictures would be either fair or morally right - hence this post. Judging by the comments both before and after your own, I don't think it's been viewed as a 'silly subject' at all - if it wasn't for the forum where else could we air these views and make positive changes for all? I've frequented this forum for around 2 years now, and was merely making a statement about the change - I totally appreciate the learning curve we ALL go through (just look at my early stuff under my original login mjshepherd for evidence!), but I also believe members should exercise little bit of 'personal censorship' by not entering too many 'snapshot' type pics - not least of all because as they DO develop, people used to seeing a certain type of picture from them may have (rightly or wrongly) already built up an opinion of that artist and decide to miss viewing their better work later on - and to me, that is what a large part of the photography gallery/forum is all about - learning and developing skills to be able to take the type of shot that you want. If you want to take shots of the dog/family/whatever, the forum is here to help you take damn good photo's of those, but I would expect that (this being an art site) people posting here would want to go further than that and develop an interest and individual 'style'. Sorry, tricksta, please don't take this as a personal rant against your comment - it's ended up being my opinion on the whole thing and what I believe it stands for...... I want everyone in the photography section to gain the experience and knowledge I have - and hopefully to put it to better use and create better images than I can!! Mike (",)

HEY! ALL MY WORK IS MOSTLY "T&A"! I LIKE TO CALL IT EROTICA FOR I BELIEVE THAT IS THE NAME FOR IT, THE SAME WAY THOSE OF YOU WHO LIKE TO SHOOT SUN-SETS OR CLIFF VIEWS LIKE TO CALL YOUR WORK LANDSCAPES OR NATURE SHOTS. I THINK IT IS UNFAIR TO PICK ON SEMI-NUDES JUST BECAUSE IT BRINGS A BIT MORE ATTENTION THAN A CAT LICKING HIMSELF. I GET GREAT COMMENTS BY MALE ASWELL AS FEMALE VIEWERS.

tricksta ( ) posted Fri, 17 January 2003 at 11:02 AM

Fair play BIOSERGE totally agree with you for once! lol

JordyArt ( ) posted Fri, 17 January 2003 at 12:16 PM

I'm not picking on T&A - just pointing out it's a guaranteed way of getting hits. I believe I proved that exact point with a picture that (last time I looked) was still in the first page of the most viewed....... (",)

Michelle A. ( ) posted Fri, 17 January 2003 at 12:40 PM

LOL! I think the problem here is the quality of the T&A for the most part. I want to state for the record I am not against the nudity per se. I like images of the human body male or female that are well done and in good taste... I'm thankful that we have you bioserge and you tricksta....and at least a couple of others who are doing tasteful and well done work with nudes. On the other hand we have these "self-proclaimed PlayBoy shooter types" (somebody elses words not mine) that flood the gallery with gratuitous, poorly done, plain old, bad photography. And that is the stuff I could do without. I think it lessens the quality of the gallery. (Sarcasm On) I must say though it is funny how though these images may get many hits, how many comments to they actually garner? Theres an image currently on page 2 it has 437 views....and all of 3 comments....comments such as "Nice Bra"....yeah it's real good photography....and it really erotic too. (Sarcasm Off) BTW I'm not into cat pics either.....I think most of those could be alot better too... LOL! Woops, guess I'm in rare form today.......

Could it be that my work has no flaws? am I that great that people are scared to say something wrong? Yeah right! But there are pictures up here who go hand in hand with the works of the "self-proclaimed PlayBoy shooter" how about those who upload remote control car pics? or a face shot made with like 6 different faces... comments such as "Nice Bra".... I wonder who? :O) Sarcasm Rules! Cyn, You have a great Idea I can fund it... Partners?

Hey Michelle A., you can do that here in Nashville! We got over 7inches of snow on Thursday, and it shu the town DOWN!!! major gridlock! Took me almost 6 hours to get homw from work.... I've been lurking over this thread since I posted early on and have been sitting here thinking about it over the last day or so (ok, I thought about it for about 30 seconds overall), a suggestion comes to mind and probably more trouble than it's worth. In the monthly contest challenge there are two zones, one for semi-newbies and another for not-so-newbies. How about galleries for "snapshotty pics" and another for "artsy pics"? Like I said, I realise that this would be WAY TOO MUCH TROUBLE to do, but the thought crossed my feeble little mind.

Michelle A. ( ) posted Fri, 17 January 2003 at 5:09 PM

Wow!! Even up here 7 inches is still alot to get dumped on all at once. When I was a kid we had the Blizzard of '78, 3 feet all at once.....that one shut the state down for days..... As far as your idea, good thought! However like you I suspect it would be way to much trouble to implement and really not practical....there's plenty of room for all of us in the gallery. :~) PS.....did you take pics?......and please post them.......

I'm shutting up about the gallery now. It's caused far too much discussion and made too many people have to think. Not good. (",)

Misha883 ( ) posted Fri, 17 January 2003 at 8:58 PM

Arrrgh! OK. Having gotten that off my chest. [Nude bodies with claw'ed cats. Painful.] I think it's a nice thing that 'osity gives us a place to post and hang out. I don't expect a lot more out of the site than that; they get their money from 3D stuff, and are happy with high hit counts, no matter what folks are having fun with or excited about at any particular time. Given that framework, our Mods, and many of the folks here, are extremely dedicated, not only to their Art, but to building a community of sharing people. They are also very open to different styles and skill levels. If this Forum, or the Gallery, is not what WE want to make it. Please don't whine and complain, or slink away without an explanation. I, and several others, have stepped up and tried to provide possible directions. Honestly, it does not bother me at all if folks don't respond and continue contributing in these directions. [Well, it does bother me a little, but at least I've reached a few.] If you want it to go in different directions, take us there. We have some folks in the Gallery who are not very skilled, and who are not willing to evolve. Does that drive the good people away? Maybe. So the rest of us should encourage the trollers and porn snappers to leave. We shouldn't always be sticking our Moderators with this distasteful job. At least, we should keep posting images that far outshine their feeble efforts. Maybe they will learn. There are folks posting in the Gallery who are not very skilled, but who are willing to learn. [I number myself among them, BTW.] If they seem willing to learn, invite them over to the Forum for more in-depth discussion. [Cynlee has been very proactive in this, and I complement her!] Perhaps we'll all learn something. If we are going to have an abundance of Cat pictures in the Gallery, let's at least have some GOOD cat pictures. I've never beem successful at photo'ing these mysterious creatures. Maybe hyperboria, or someone else really skilled, could teach us? If we are going to have T&A, or the male counterparts, let's have GOOD T&A. Serge and several others are quite skilled at this. [I've always been too damn shy, and those that took their clothes off for me... well didn't have photos on their mind at the time...] If you have knowledge in this area, teach the rest of us. While I'm ranting here, and before I go and get another brandy, I must remember to thank 'Chelle, and a few others here, for being the persons you are and for posting the images you post.
