The images have been broken on and off in the galleries for the better part of the week. I heard a rumor there's some connectivity problem on there on the 'net, not specifically related to Renderosity, but for that long? Any idea what's up?

kbennett ( ) posted Fri, 17 January 2003 at 4:20 PM

Can you give an example? I'm having no trouble from here in the UK. Kevin.

fiction2002 ( ) posted Fri, 17 January 2003 at 4:38 PM

Sure. When I go to a gallery, most of the images are broken, and when I click to see the larger version, it's usually broken, too. At this moment, things seem Okay, but it's been like this for awhile.

kbennett ( ) posted Fri, 17 January 2003 at 4:40 PM

Okay. Next time it happens, IM any of the mods online and we'll be happy to check it out for you. Kevin.

I've been seeing this too. Just now half the thumbs in the max gallery show red x's same as my gallery. One hour it's fine another missing images.

Lon Chaney ( ) posted Fri, 17 January 2003 at 5:14 PM

wouldn't you know it now everything is fine again ;o)

fiction2002 ( ) posted Fri, 17 January 2003 at 5:15 PM

Yep, but about 10 minutes ago, all was broken. I hope they're able to track the problem down, even if it's an offsite, Internet backbone type problem.

kbennett ( ) posted Fri, 17 January 2003 at 5:26 PM

I've just had a quick check through the Poser gallery (that's the one fiction2002 was looking at) and I have no problems from here in the UK. I'll go take a look at the Max one now. I suspect there must be a backbone problem somewhere between where the servers are and you guys. Are you geographically near each other?

kbennett ( ) posted Fri, 17 January 2003 at 5:34 PM

Just checked a handful of the galleries, and no problems here. I'll point this thread out to those who know more about it than me and see if there's been any problems.

fiction2002 ( ) posted Fri, 17 January 2003 at 5:35 PM

I'm in California, if that helps. When I do a traceroute, the only problem I see is a brief hanging at: core-126-229.rentech.net

kbennett ( ) posted Fri, 17 January 2003 at 5:38 PM

I'm going straight through there with no problems.

Late last year I lost an image in this manner. It never re-appeared in my gallery even tho I was told by a mod it would be back up in a week. I never did find out what happened.

Just checked images in the LW Gallery (from Thailand) and it all looks good from my end. :o) - M

@ Grim some images were permanently lost during the server upgrade, messages were posted suggesting you use the edit option on the image to upload it again without losing comments or ratings.

It's still happening here, way too much to be normal. And of course it's so frustrating, because I know that most of you don't see it. :-(

Well, guess what? I can see the images regularly again, and here's what I discovered. I've been browsing with IE 6 under Windows XP. That worked for a long time, but recently I started getting those broken images. Funny thing is, my fiancee had no problem viewing them on her system (IE6, Win ME). So, I decided to try Netscape 7, and that shows the images just fine. Guess which browser I'll be using on Renderosity from now on? I hope this helps other people who might be having the same problem. Jonathan / fiction2002

Hey, thanks for letting us know.

You're very welcome. :-)

tutone1234 ( ) posted Wed, 22 January 2003 at 9:35 AM

Is it all images or just random images that are not displaying? Tommy

fiction2002 ( ) posted Wed, 22 January 2003 at 1:00 PM

It's most images. So, some will come through, but most are broken. (As I mentioned though, with Netscape, they're all coming through.) Jonathan

tutone1234 ( ) posted Wed, 22 January 2003 at 3:08 PM

I'll check into it and see if I can come up with any reasoning for the problems. Thanks. Tommy

tutone1234 ( ) posted Wed, 22 January 2003 at 3:12 PM

FYI - I'm using IE 6.0.26 on XP and am not experiencing the problem which makes the issue even more odd. Tommy

fiction2002 ( ) posted Wed, 22 January 2003 at 4:04 PM

That is weird... that's exactly what I have the problem with. One idea is that the IE 6.0.26 XP combination isn't as insistant as other browser/OS configurations on downloading images if at first it fails. It's possible that I'm getting a slight delay where I am, and though the IE 6/XP combo gives up, Netscape is more "patient" and gets the images.
