Which one looks better to you? This one is a photo, spruced up a bit, colours also changed.

And this one was created from scratch in Photoshop, because photos of rust didn't look good, and Bryce's rust was useless.

Btw...forgive me if you already know this. Big photo textures on smaller objects in Bryce; They can look unsatisfactory when applied normally to a mesh. I would suggest increasing the scale control on the texture. Roughly, it controls how much (or many times) your texture is replicated onto your mesh. It may not work well with that texture in particualr, but just thought I would mention it. AS

Texture applied Sinsusoidally, scale is at zero percent on the left, fifty percent on the right.

Personally I think the first one would be the better of the two for a unique chipped paint look if you lower the bump height and scale it a little differently. Unless your right up close the second one will washout to a solid brownish hue loosing most of its detail. Just my opinion though. :)

Erlik, take another stab at Brycean rust, you shuld be able to produce realistic rust with just a little tweaking...

Roch222 ( ) posted Fri, 24 January 2003 at 9:03 PM

I like the texture of the 1st one. I agree with DryFly The second one will just look blah, just tweak the first one as agentsmith suggested The first one looks like patina Keep PLaying! roch222

Actually, I know that specific texture he's using on the first one, and it looked horrible when I took the scale up. It's bluish and paint splattered on one side , flakey and rusty on the other. It's usually looks best to scale up textures that are well balanced.

As the situation stands, the bars will be relatively pretty close to the camera, even closer than now. So the bumps and discolorations should be visible. Yes, I want an old, flaking paint look. I tried applying paint to the Photoshop one, but I'd need to create the flaking edges, and I have no idea how at the moment. AS, I cloned the screws and the plaque out of existence and changed the colour to a slightly greenish one, but you're right, it's too uneven to be tiled. This is World Space mapping and it looks acceptable. Only, I think I should create bump map specifically, because the grayscale version of the pic gives awful results. This is bump height somewhere around 50 and that doesn't look good. OTOH, lowering BH would just make the texture flatter. I'll also try other mappings. BTW, AS, nice model. :-)

Just some replicated primitives.
