THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Monitor size/resolution

Incarnadine ( ) posted Wed, 29 January 2003 at 11:59 AM · edited Sat, 30 November 2024 at 6:04 PM

I was just looking at one of Hyperborea's images and it gets lost on my monitor (no criticism intended, I love their work!). It got me thinking though - What monitor size do people have and what resolution do they run at? I have 19" at 1280 x 1024 on desktop and 15" at 1024 x 768 on the laptop. ?

22" at 1600 x 1200. Would run it even bigger, but the card gives only 85Hz refresh as is. Before that a 17" at 1280 x 1024. BTW, I enlarge every new document to 1024x768. The trick with "default.br5" didn't work.

1024 x 768, 15" LCD, 32bit True Color, on my internet surfin pc.. it's brand new... wish I could have afforded a 17" but those LCD's are expensive boogers! On my workhorse machine I'm running... 1152 x 864, 17", 32 bit True Color

1600x1200@85Hz on an 19" LG Flatron. I dont know if anyone is familier with this monitor, but it rocks! EH

1024x768 on an apple pro 17" lcd I snow I could run it higher, but it just isn't as clear. Plus, it's nice because I have a small black border on the top and bottom of the screen, and makes it look bigger, also easier on the eyes...

My iMac 17'' 1440x900 - v interesting especially for poser where there is wads of room for all pallettes and dials my old G4 has been blessed by a new phillips 19" job which is currently at 1920x1440 ( I can see yer hoose from here) but normally at 1600x1200.

Doublecrash ( ) posted Wed, 29 January 2003 at 5:31 PM

14" at 1024x768 on my Dell laptop. If I go any higher it's a mess. To Erlik: I just used today the "default.br5" trick. I was searching for that scenefile, but couldn't find it in any Corel/Bryce dir. So I created a new document at 800x600 (the res I can afford to work on my laptop) and Saved As. The file simply wasn't there. Maybe it's the same problem you're having. Stefano

Packard Bell 17" @ 1024 x 768, brand new but having trouble with the de-guaze. Only cost me 67 as Dixons wanted to get rid of 2 they had lying around. Had a 17" CTX but it commited suicide right after my hdd.

Flak, you're telling me you did "Siege" with a 450??!? This's awesome again! :-) To the Mods: hey, may I vote an image two times for the Hot20? :-) Stefano

I'm using 21" Sony Trinitron flat screen at 1280x1024. It is recommended that your final image should be rendered twice the intended viewing image size for best results and not at 72dpi. It should be at least at 99dpi, so if your final viewing image is intended to be 800x600, your final render should be 1600x1200 at 99dpi - 150dpi and saved in some format other than "jpg". Use "bmp","tiff", "tga" or "pict". You can resample your final image to the desired resolution and exported as "jpg" for web viewing. But your original final render will be in pristine resolution (who knows, you may want to give away prints!). Just a tip Ive picked up and offering to share.

19 inch at 1024. I prefer that but for SoftImage I have to go to 1280 or it won't run.

Stefano, I did the same thing just now. Saved it in Bryce root directory (disk:Program FilesBryce5). It opened the old 540x405 scene and switched to 1024 after half a second. But I have the patch installed. Maybe that's the key.

Erlik: Solved! I had the same thing goin' on, only that, because of my slow PC, it took some "seconds" to open the 800x600 I saved. Realized it just this morning.:) Stefano

17" at 1024x768. Anything else is just overkill for me, buttons are too small, etc. Quest, I 've found that pics resampled down 50% do not look at good as pics that were rendered straight to the size that I wanted in the first place. Just an opinion.

I'm agreeing with you on that one AS. I find I have to do some sharpening after a major resample down. I usually render at 1280x1024 for my own wallpaper use and then resample down/sharpen for posting. So far 1024x768 seems to be a good choice for basic posted image size.

1600x1200. It's a 20(ish)-inch.

Renderosity had a survey sometime in the last year or so I think and it seemed like most people (who answered the survey at the time I looked at it) had 1024x768 I think.

catlin_mc ( ) posted Sun, 02 February 2003 at 2:05 AM

I've stretched it to 1280x1024. Just got a new CPU (Athlon 1.8GHz XP) for my birthday, which is today. All cheers, good wishes, comments etc are very welcome and encouraged. So I thought It's about time I looked at the bigger picture on the ninny net. Also I've discovered that with the new processor my render times have halved. 8) Cheers Catlin

Incarnadine ( ) posted Sun, 02 February 2003 at 9:41 AM

Indeed, best wishes for your birthday and congrats on the new box. Your render times won't stay halved for long though (grin)!

catlin_mc ( ) posted Sun, 02 February 2003 at 3:15 PM

Thank you for the greetings guys, and Incarnadine you are right. Started playing about with volumeric lights and a simple piece wich took about 5 min to render with normal lights suddenly took 6 hours to antialias. Oh well, now I need more ram and perhaps a bit of overclocking to get renders back to a reasonable time. 8) Catlin
