Subject: Problem With Stormguards from Daz ( I think it's the cr2)

Manikin Flesh ( ) posted Thu, 30 January 2003 at 9:20 AM · edited Tue, 03 December 2024 at 2:58 PM

Hi, The problem is when I save a character using the Stormguard uniform it comes back stating can't open "runtimegeometriesimstuffsentinalssvelbowpads.obj". The actual path is "runtimegeometriesimstuffStormguardssvelbowpads.obj I've contacted Daz tech support and they told me to delete the rsr which I had already done and that doesn't work, that took 24 hours. I haven't messed with cr2s much and am not sure as to whether or not the difference in paths could result in the problem I'm seeing. So if any of you could be so kind as to advise me as to whether I'm on the right track I'd appreciate it. It works fine in Poser, I only get the message when I reopen the saved pz3. Thanks, Bill

Yes the difference in paths is the cause. I may not have the Stormguards but I've had other items with that kind of mistake. Either correct the cr2 or move/copy the item to the path that the cr2 points to.

I had the problem and had to point where the .obj is several times for various pieces of it. I think it is something like the file is "C:program filesMetacreationsPoser 4runtimegeomitires...." when it should be dynamically linked to the location, or something like that. DAZ I think is so busy doing and putting out so many things, they are causing a few minor mistakes slip though.

Darken666 and a superhero, Thanks for the response I appreciate it. I told Daz the exact same thing and they defaulted to the bad rsr scenario. I'm going to recontact them to try to fix it as I assume there would be people that would be uncomfortable messing with the cr2. Again thanks alot for the quick response. Bill

The 1/23/03 update on the Stormguards page of the DAZ site should fix the problem. Have you tried that, yet? I included a link to the page. The update is at the bottom. Hope it helps! Jay

Jaybutton, Yes I used the Stormguard update. Thanks for suggesting it. Do you have Stormguards? If you do have you tried to save it as a pz3 then reopen it? What's difficult with these problems is you're never sure if it's a result of a strange nuance on your computer and that it works fine for everyone else. Again thanks, Bill

Hi Bill,

I also purchased the Stormguards, but I had already corrected the cr2 references and haven't had any problems. I decided to download and install the update just to see if I could duplicate your problem and it turns out I could.

I checked the sVElbowPads.cr2 and it looks like one of the paths in the update didn't get changed from 'Sentinels' to 'Stormguards'. Correcting this manually will fix the problem, running the update will reintroduce it.

So it looks like you were right - there is an error in the [updated] CR2.

The only difference is I get the error when placing the elbow pads (even though they act normally), not when reopening a saved PZ3.

Thanks alot Ailarchendil, I feel alot better now. I really appreciate you taking the time to do that. I've recontacted Daz explaining the problem and hopefully they will correct it. To correct this I go into the cr2 change sentinels to stormguards? Thanks, Bill

Ailarchendil, You're good. The initial line is Stormguards, the second line is sentinels I changed sentinals to stormguard and it worked like a champ. Now it's off to take it into Vue. THANKS. Bill

I am sorry it took awhile to get back to this thread (I'm at work). I haven't yet loaded the update, I've been using a different workaround. It sounds like DAZ will help you out. Good Luck! Jay

Gorodin ( ) posted Thu, 30 January 2003 at 5:21 PM

I have notified DAZ about this thread. I feel I should point out that these problems were introduced during the mad rush to rename the package, update the files for V3 and release the product ASAP, and should not reflect on the original work Lourdes put into the product. The Beta version I got worked perfectly. :-P

Manikin Flesh ( ) posted Thu, 30 January 2003 at 7:03 PM

I agree with Gorodin. It is a very fine product. It fits well, looks good, and can be used on Mike Vic,and Steph. Just for the record I never considered this a problem with Lourdes. I don't even have a problem with the updated files having an error. Mistakes happen. What I do have a problem with is Dazs' tech support. This was the first time I've ever dealt with them and I anticipated the same exemplary customer service I've gotten from Ms. Reba Vest, always courteous, always willing to help. Instead they disregarded my suggestion that the filepath was incorrect. They saw the word obj file and what I consider a form letter spat itself out saying to delete the corrupt rsr, and that took 24 hours to get to me. On a brighter note, I knew I could depend on the members of this poser forum to assist me, which they did and I am forever grateful to all of you that took the time to help. Thanks, Bill

The Rename fix is not available in the update as it covers all the CR2 files. Send me an email if you bought the product before 1/30 or so and are having that problem. Let me know your Order number and I'll reset the link to the fixed version. Thanks all. Ryan tech@daz3d.com
