Little_Dragon ( ) posted Thu, 30 January 2003 at 6:41 PM

Tell-Ware? Oh, yes; I'll be telling people about this. In fact, I might start early and meet my quota ahead of schedule.

davidgibson ( ) posted Thu, 30 January 2003 at 6:43 PM

When???????????

LaurieA ( ) posted Thu, 30 January 2003 at 6:44 PM

LOL Little Dragon...I thought the very same thing. ;o) Laurie

MachineClaw ( ) posted Thu, 30 January 2003 at 6:46 PM

PabloS, your reading right. have to wait and see if its true, but Daz has been pretty upfront about its dealings with the poser community. I know its just a press anouncement, but I felt this way when metacreations died, when we got the CL/Kupa leaving posting, and now this. This is so good news, and SOOOOO weird!!!!

SAMS3D ( ) posted Thu, 30 January 2003 at 6:47 PM

Just got done reading it....it certainly was interesting, I wonder if it will have characteristics the same as poser, concerning the joint editor and heirachy. Didn't see that in the promo shots Why is it to me new software always first intimidates me and then I can't wait to try it....Should be an interesting year. Sharen

3-DArena ( ) posted Thu, 30 January 2003 at 6:50 PM

I read this release earlier when Steve sent it to me - and what got my attention was that it will render pz3 files created with in P4 - so that means Poser 4 is required still - so no bye-bye CL at this point MAchine CLaw...

I just IM'ed a friend at college who's interested in CG art but still playing with the different demos available, and told him about this latest development. Guess I've half paid for mine already....

yeah but if they have plugins for our favourite 3d apps it could be buhbye CL for a lot of people still. (hopes for a decent Carrara plugin...)

xoconostle ( ) posted Thu, 30 January 2003 at 6:55 PM

Amazing and wonderful news. Sounds like a terrific strategy, offering functionality modules separately. Actually, everything about this strategy makes good sense. I like that it's based on goodwill, customer satisfaction and word of mouth. Tellware: Only two people? I know more who will want to hear tell. :-) Cool concept!

PheonixRising ( ) posted Thu, 30 January 2003 at 7:03 PM

You won't have to own Poser to use Daz content. The base version will read in multiple file formats in addition to it's own file format. We do plan to work with other companies to develop plug-ins. We plan to support other operating systems(hopefully Linux too) as we said earlier. The Tellware aspect is really important. Making it free is a leap of faith we are willing to take. :) Telling more than two people would definately be welcome. More info will apear soon. Anton DAZ3D Sam3d, Soon Soon Soon

Anton, that is fabulous - not that many of us don't already have P4 lol but to have it usable freestanding is phenomenal!

I just hope it can mesh with Vue as nicely as Poser4 does (hint, big hint!) Laurie

Maveris ( ) posted Thu, 30 January 2003 at 7:13 PM

Please Anton... tell me that I can load my V3 (cr2 file) in DAZStudio!!! Mav :)

PheonixRising ( ) posted Thu, 30 January 2003 at 7:18 PM

Maveris yeah! see the screenshot at the link above. The files were imported right from from existing files. No conversion by the user. Look at her hair and the dragon wings. That is display mode. See what I was saying about it being render quality with transmaps. I am so glad some of the cat is out of the bag. It was driving me crazy reading where some people were stating (as fact) that they "knew" it was going to be $200 or something like that. Anton

system requirements? It looks amazing!

STORM3 ( ) posted Thu, 30 January 2003 at 7:22 PM

Free!*
What refreshing concept given what we have been through (and are still going through) with CL over the last few months.
I love the idea of the open Beta testing with everyone involved. That should lead to a rock solid application that will stand the test of time. And it will lead to further enhancements, functionality and versatility, so that when the full release hits the market everyone will know exactly what they are getting.
This is a very sound proposition. :o)

Regards
STORM

The first release will be able to load PZ3 files for rendering, and some modification. Later releases will add more import, and baseline modification features. Think of it as software evolution. You'll be able to give feedback and should see updates on a fairly regular basis after the first beta release. ML

Maveris ( ) posted Thu, 30 January 2003 at 7:24 PM

Many many thanks Anton... here 2:02 A.M. and I don't find my jaw... oops it's on the floor... Mav :) P.S. Hope DAZ have a new server for support all the request of downloads!! LOL

bijouchat ( ) posted Thu, 30 January 2003 at 7:28 PM

Thats really good to hear... my system gets on fine with Carrara 2.1 and P4 (sometimes won't render with P4 though, so I do it in Carrara when its big) but I've heard P5 is more of a hog than P4, and P4 is already a hog, hence my concern. :) I am really looking forward to the dynamic cloth.

PabloS ( ) posted Thu, 30 January 2003 at 7:29 PM

Anton, You can defer this to another Daz techie if you need to but I'm curious (and I'm sure a few others might be too) what system configurations have been tested so far?

milamber42 ( ) posted Thu, 30 January 2003 at 7:35 PM

Will the DAZ Studio Developer Tool Kit be available for free as well?

PheonixRising ( ) posted Thu, 30 January 2003 at 7:39 PM

I know we had video cards shipped to us from alot of companies for testing. Beta will be good for that really though. Daz studio also can use Python which is free to download. More info will appear after beta release I am sure. I don't know much about renderman shaders personally. Sorry I am not qualified to answer some of these questions right now myself. Anton

Anton, If you support .fbx it could save you from creating plugins for multiple apps and ditto milamber42's question. Sounds great though! -Mark

mabfairyqueen ( ) posted Thu, 30 January 2003 at 7:43 PM

From my understanding, the first beta release is going to basically be a rendering thing with some ability to adjust the scenes. As I understand it, the ability to pose right in the app will come along in a later beta release. Am I following this right? So it starts out as a really spiffy renderer, is how I follow it. I think we need to understand that from the beginning so that we aren't disappointed. From what I'm reading, most all of what we would wish for the app will be there by the end.

thorntoa ( ) posted Thu, 30 January 2003 at 8:46 PM

I really want this -- I'll be trying it as soon as I can get it but the real usability won't be arriving till the 2nd beta. However, If you want to be impacting interface issues -- you are going to want to use this software right away and provide feedback to DAZ.

"same as an average videogame. " Uh i have already had to upgrade twice! to run everquest and will have to upgrade again to run planes of power- sure hope you aren't using everquest game specs! EEP! Psst- i already told 3 people- but 2 of them are on macs- will this be compatible with mac 0s 9 and os X ? So when //where does one sign up to be a tester?

PheonixRising ( ) posted Thu, 30 January 2003 at 8:59 PM

Cheryl, Beta will show us what requirements people will need. If you have already done that then don't worry bout it. Things need what they need. More info down the road after people start using it. That is the reason for beta. More info soon from our site. Anton

The 4th Party ( ) posted Thu, 30 January 2003 at 9:09 PM

sorry, I haven't been folowing the news on daz studio. is this a program to pose and render poser figures if you don't own poser? or an advanced renderer? I didn't see anything relating to animation on the link, or the screencaps, is it only for still images? just curious

nakamuram ( ) posted Thu, 30 January 2003 at 9:13 PM

Will DAZ Studio be able to render P5 Strand-based hair?

_dodger ( ) posted Thu, 30 January 2003 at 9:14 PM

Will it use hardware for rendering or display? I have a decent, if a little old video card (ATI Rage128 All-In-Wonder 16) that has on-board 3-D accelleration. And... Please say yes to this... I'm begging you please say yes to this... will DAZ studio have real omnidirectional lights??? Please!

PheonixRising ( ) posted Thu, 30 January 2003 at 9:45 PM

Dodger: It uses hardware supported OpenGL for display, with advanced shader, transparency support, and realtime depth of field.... among other goodies. Yes about the lights. Many things are planned to take advantage of advanced features you see in the broader market today. The program is planned to be very modular allowing users to tailor it to their needs. We have our own intentions with hair and cloth. Much of what we have become used to is not considered current in the industry. More info soon. All I can really say I have said. Anton DAZ3D

Going in a different direction with hair and cloth is a good thing. The cloth handling I've seen in Poser 5 was reasonable, but I've never liked the look of the hair. I'm telling everyone I know about this.
