Subject: Poser 5 & MAC OS

I'm still running Poser 4 and feel somewhat cheated that CuriousLabs (for the first time) didn't release a new Mac Version of Poser at the same time they released a Windows version. Has anyone heard when or if they plan to do so? There are a lot of new functions I would love to get my hands on... but can hear about by the Windows users. Argggg!!! Thanks :)

Hey Mako dap Do a search on the subject on the forum there is PLENTY to read! I understand they have a beta version in testing. Eric

Hey Mako if you're running a Mac save your pennies for Daz studio instead of waiting for Curious Labs to remember the Mac community. If rumors are to be believed, Daz Studio will run OSX which Poser has yet to realize with their bandaid patched software. Sorry for the mean spiritedness of these remarks but IMHO Curious Labs has dropped the ball in many areas while Daz has put out some pretty solid products. A better day awaits us all.

Hey guys.. thanks for the info. Is this new "DAZ STUDIO" going to be able to have all the functionality that Poser has with it's character morphs and animation? I read that it's just in the early stages of beta testing and they want Poser users to test it out for them for free. If it can do everything that I abuse Poser for and more...then I will be keeping my eye out for it. Just hope they work on the MAC versions at the same time (unlike Curious Labs).

I'm actually quite suprised... I know PC's have way more of the cosumer market share, but I know and see a hell of a lot of MAC users that have Poser. I actually wrote into C.Labs back in December, and their response to me felt like they were saying "So sorry... we don't really care about your kind....we're looking at a MAC version, but don't have any plans for releasing it anytime soon". Argggggg!!! Well if this "DAZ Studio" is as good as it's sounding... that looks like the way to possibly go. Thanks again :)

Wow... Poser...& then on a MAC. I seriously feel for you, Mako. I can't even imagine... Yeah; what Jay said. Wait for Daz Studio. I wouldn't even think about Poser5. That's just a time/nerves/money pit waiting to happen.

Looks like that CL has lost its Mac users to DAZ...............sorry for you CL.........

We don't know if the initial free release of Daz Studio Base will have a Mac version, but you can safely assume Poser 5 is on bare-bones life support, since they fired all the personnel responsible. If Egisys has good business sense, they will pull the plug on P5 if they decide it can't compete with Daz Studio. You might expect us to be loyal to Curious Labs, but they destroyed all the good will with their Nixonian stonewalling and issue avoidance. People who don't learn from past mistakes are doomed to repeat them.

"We don't know if the initial free release of Daz Studio Base will have a Mac version..."

If I ask really nicely... and behave this year... would it be possible to get a MAC version moving along? :)

Thanks for taking the time to to fill me in. I'm crossing my fingers that you guys can turn around a MAC version of "DAZ Studio" as well. It's sad to hear about Curious Labs... but I thought it was common knowledge that if you treat your customers like "crap"... you often don't last long. Cheers.

Just to add to the frustration, a little more info. Firefly and MatLab are licenced from Pixels Digital. In Pixels 4.x its known as Tempest and Shadermaker, currently available on OS9 and OSX. Always fun to know stuff like that.

I think we'll probably see Mac versions of both Poser 5 and DAZ Studio Base by autumn. CuriousLabs announced that they do have a Mac version of P5 up and running, but it isn't quite ready for public release. Since DAZ wants a million people to download Studio by year's end, I imagine it'll arrive at least a few months before 2004 begins. It wouldn't surprise me if DAZ releases the Studio beta for the Mac later than the Wintel version (since we had to wait a bit for DialCleaner), but it would surprise me if the delay between the Mac and PC releases of Studio takes as long as the delay between the Mac and PC versions of P5. This modularity thing with Studio has some great potential, especially since DAZ wants to keep the pricing competitive when the add-ons arrive. Even if the Mac version of P5 gets here first, it appears likely that DAZ Studio will be faster, better, and cheaper--even with the charges for posing, animation, etc. And of course, the free OpenGL, OS X-native beta will render much more efficiently than P4 presently does in Classic. My predictions (not based on inside knowledge!)-- - Mac P5: April or May - DAZ Studio beta (PC): August - DAZ Studio beta (OSX): August or September
