Subject: P5 U V Scale?

I loaded a bump and then made its tile much smaller by changing the U and V scale to .1, but I do'nt know what either are. Actually I'd like to make the horizonal effect a bit finer than the verticle, but am not getting the results I expect. = )

I use this scaling a lot with tiling textures and, yes, I have noticed the results are not always logical. I think it may depend on the way the item was uv scaled to begin with. I was diminishing patterns to show up more like an all over pattern-- worked great on the skirt and when I got to the top, i had to Increase just to have exact same pattern seen. I usually worked around with 0.5, rarely went too much farther than .3 and occasionally had to go to 2.5. I think it's a great tool, just doesn't always works exactly as you would think-- and the changes are not reflected at all in the display model. It is in the little image map thumbnail-- but that is pretty small to go by. Emily

Many items have differnt parts maped differently, so the U direction my be vertical for some parts and horizontal for some others. Not the best mapping practice, but that did not make mutch difference with the very limited material options of P4, so it is wiedspread with poser stuff. Stefan

Oh I did'nt include a pic.! Here is where I'm using it. See how the cloth seems to have a slight horizontal form to it? I'd like to change that to vertical, but with all the changes I've made I do'nt know how. I've set the U and V scale back to .005! Anyone know how to rotate the pattern? I'm pretty sure B5 has this rotate option, I do'nt see why P5 would'nt.

Do you mean the folds in the loin cloth?? That's gravity not pattern-- yeah it's painted on or maybe included in the mesh, maybe. Why do you want something contrary to the way in which cloth normally folds? I'm sorry if I'm being a pain. Emily

No no, can you imagine which way the piece of cloth, this loin would have been cut from, was layed just before it was cut? I wish it were utrned 90 degrees before cutting. You need to be able to see the fine way in which the cloth would have been weaved together. I can detect a small pattern that runs horizontal between gravities folds of the cloth. I think these would look more attractive if they ran verticle! = )

To turn the texture 90 degree change the property Texture_coords of the Imange_map node from UV to VU. To determine the U direction of the pice, put a U variabel node in the difuse plug of the material, you will see a gradient in the u direction. Hope that helps. Stefan
