Subject: Need a texture ...

anybody knows of a photo roof tile texture? I need either the Mission Tiles or Spanish Tiles (for Americans), or what you see around the Mediteranean (for the rest). :-) I think that the technical name is barrel-shaped tile.

Something like this? If not, you can "make" the roof using primitives. There is a half barrel primitive that looks like the roof tile. But, right now I can't remember if it is a default or one I downloaded.

Here is another one for you. The original sizw was 2048 X 1536 and the file size was about 720 kb. In order to post it, I made it 500 X 375and dropped the file size to 550 kb. If you would like this file, let me know and I will email it to you. In order to post it, I had to drop the file size under 200kb and this is now at 170kb.

Oh, thanks, everybody. So, in the order of appearance: Boomer, the top one is great. Exactly what I was looking for. You've apparently downloaded the primitive. I cannot find it. AgentSmith, I did a search on Google and did find two textures, one of "Roman tiles" for a game and one from a software called Punch. The second one had a silly format, but changing the extension to pct and then converting it to tiff in ACDC helped. But it doesn't look as nearly good as Boomer's. Anybody needs them... Roch, thanks. Now that you've jogged my thoughts, I'll try to create something myself. If it doesn't work, I'll contact you.

Wow, thanks. I might still use that, but this is something I cobbled up spurred by Roch's obp.

BTW, talking about ridiculously detailed models, this one is something like 174 thousand polygons, 4.3 MB. Every tile started as a separate piece. I had to create four separate pieces to export it properly as 3ds.

Time to go to sleep, I forget things. The texture is a sample of Boomer's tiles, blended with a bump map. And this is not a finished model, since it needs a row on the top, to cover the beam. Yep, that's the way they do it in my home town. Mediterranean. Forgot to say that every tile tapers. :-) And so to bed.

Nice job, Erlik. I'd like to see the finished product once you get it done. Hey Zhann.

Boomer, to tell you the truth, only a part of the roof will be visible through the window in my WIP As Such picture. I would have used your image for the texture, but I cannot get it to align with the model.

These mediterraneans tiles are quite hard to simulate IMO...while a texure can do the trick and fool the eyes for a distant house...polygons give the best result for closer range view, specially if you have the roof receive shadows(from a tree)...you'll prolly have to spend a lot of time aligning and cuting them so they cover the roof perfectly...you'll need accessories too for the top and the side to look right...I use to group all of them when they are conform to what i expect and make the group appear like a box, or else it slows the displays... The texture is just made with photoshop air brush and a lil use of the texure filter. Hope it helps, Ediolon
