Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 11 2:52 am)

Hello Niles, yes, so do I. I think they broke off business with Curious Labs, or CL with them. I don't know the details. Poser 5 is very different from Poser 4, but not a bad program. I personally prefer Poser 4, since it's renders are better quality, and ten times faster. I trust CL however to come with an update, so that Poser 5 will make better use ofit's FireFly render engine. There is a lot of capability there. Cheers, Paul ChristiaanAttached Link: http://www.pcbos.nl
Hello Dialyn, RayNOBODY will be left out if I can help it.
The situation now is as follows:
DAZ sells the full packet - PC and MAC - Poser 4 EC II:
a) UPGRADE for existing users of EC Version1
b) FULL Version EC II for new users
So Poser 4 users (PC and MAC!) are OK, existing users are OK as well.
Poser 5 users: I'm working HARD to find another outlet. I expect no difficulties there, but it will take time- if I'm lucky, perhaps not too much. Of course I would have preferred to continue working with friends (=DAZ), but I will simply have to make new ones, if I want to do things for Poser 5 as well as for Poser 4. Which I do.
Ray: the program for Poser 5 was immense work. I managed to get the exact same functionality in there, but had to program all over to reach that result. I tried to manage a deal with DAZ about those cross- upgrades, but couldn't. The short version: there is no possibility of a price break- but there will be a reduction on introducing ECII for Poser 5.
I'm really sorry, but there is nothing more I can do about it in this situation.
Cheers,
Paul Christiaan
Paul, I don't think anyone could blame you for the lack of support from Daz for Poser 5. But it does appear from the description that the Pro Pack is required and all I have is Poser 4 and Poser 5. I hope you are able to release a Poser 5 version....it seems like a terrific program. I hope some people will post links to graphics where they have used it...I'd like to see it in action, as it were. :)
I hate the way DAZ are trying to pretend that P5 never happened. I presume that when their app arrives, we'll start seeing stuff that works fine in Studio, but not in Poser 5 (some might say that with V3, this has already started...) I'm FAR from being a big fan of P5, but this stuff all seems small-minded and petty, somehow. For shame, DAZ.
Well, I think it is a business decision on their part. They want people to use Daz Studio and have to buy cool new stuff. The fact is that despite the "free" tag, there is a cost attached and that cost will be paid out in add ons and items that can only be used in Daz Studio. And those of us who can't afford all the goodies will be the second rate citizens as everyone else rushes out to buy, buy, buy. I don't blame Daz for wanting to focus the attention on their own products....that's the way of the world. And other vendors will have to make a decision about how they focus their own energies. A lot of changes coming up this next year. And it will mean the end of the game for some of us who can't afford to play anymore. Oh well.

You may be right, dialyn, I m not sure how things stand over there.. But if I have anything to do with it, let me repeat it here, you nor anybody else will be left out if you want to continue with Poser. A way will be found, Im sure of that at least. Cheers, Paul ChristiaanI respect your efforts to be inclusive. Again, I don't place any blame on you. I think there is a natural competition going on and people are being caught in the middle. Your product looks great and I'd still love to see some graphics from people who have used it....best of luck and I hope you keep us posted on your prodcut.
This product looks very, very intriguing... I gather you can use it to render images with simulated radiosity, sort of like Lightscape? I'd love to see images that were rendered using it. I did a search in the gallery but I only managed to find two, and they were both fairly simple scenes. Does anyone know of more images done with either this release or the previous Environment Creator release that I could look at?
Are there redistribution restrictions on light sets (lt2)?

Sorry, but I have to ask a question here. I seem to remember that CL changed their EULA and that Dan Farr of DAZ posted that everything was fine between CL and DAZ and that DAZ could now support Poser 5. What happened to change this? Is it that DAZ just doesn't want to? Their right if that is the case. I'm not intending to bash anyone, DAZ or CL. Just curious about the about-face.
Well, actually, one could suggest Windows, Explorer, and associated Microsoft products are continually buggy after many generations, but that's neither here nor there. I wasn't bashing Daz. I spend a lot of time shopping there and admire their products. I was only stating a fact of business that as the two companies go their separate ways, some of us who can't afford parallel programs are goig to get left without the latest goodie. That's what happens. I can't afford the latest gas guzzling mega SUV or pick up either so I settle for a low gas mileage sedan. Doesn't mean I have anything against one company over another...I just had personal choices to make. I think incompatiblitily between systems tends to be detrimental to both companies rather than being an advantage to one or the other...and you can think one nano second and figure out why that may be true. None of this has anything to do with the product at hand, which I think this sounds like a great product. I would still love to see some graphics created with it. That's all.
Hello everybody-
GRAPHICS created with ECII:
at DAZ and at
http://www.pcbos.nl
follow link "Poser"
the image for ECII has been made wholly with ECII lightsets (Moon (Poser 5), SunDown (Poser 4), Beach (Poser 5)).
Also there, there is a lot more information about the program, plus 1:1 reproductions of the program's modules, plus what they are for.
NO restriction whatsoever on distributing Light Sets- in fact, that was one of my big points for EC, from Version1 onwards.ECII goes a lot further in this field- you can pack up to 32 different manifestations of the same basic Light Set in 1 SnapShot File- each SnapShot with as long a name as you like-, PLUS the original Lightset. Anybody else using ECII can then instantly recreate the set with one flick of the button.
One thing more: something great has happened in the last few minutes.. I may not say anything yet, butI think things will work out fine for every Poser 5 user out there, and soon as well.
Will keep you posted.
Thank you all for the understanding and the great discussion!
Yours,
Paul Christiaan
Daz is going out of their way to kill off CL as quickly as possible. First they create as much of a disturbance as they can with the EULA (which wasn't half the problem that they made it out to be). Then they won't support P5, now they're releasing Studio's base for free knowing full well that CL can't survive that. In a month or two when CL goes belly up, then Daz will begin announcing how much each module will actually cost. Count on getting Sudio with everything P5 can do for $500+ easily sice they won't have any competition.
What kills me is that DAZ owes its very livelihood to Poser and Curious Labs. They sell Poser content, after all. DAZ Studio doesn't truly exist as a product to sell just yet. But DAZ spent the last few months driving nails into Curious Labs, and yes, I think they're helping to kill Poser. To make things worse, people support DAZ's strategy by continuing to buy DAZ products.

And: absolutely, dialyn.everybody, please remember: I GOT a certain mail... Do please wait till Monday or Tuesday before you go flaming DAZ again. I don't think they deserve it- in fact: I KNOW they don't deserve flaming.
Fact of the matter is, we just got a new broker. Earlier deals were simply overseen in the change over. Or so I understand.
To Jcleaver: the one with nothing happening when clicking on the graphic: either switch JAVA on, or install true Java, not Microsoft's own cooking. I think that might be the problem, though I have seen my sight working under XP, which has, I believe, IE latest. Check your prefs, perhaps?
Ok, speak to you all soon!

I have IE 6 and I found that when I clicked on the graphic, another windows opened up but it didn't open up in front of my face...it was just another little tab that I mistook for one of those pop up ads until I clicked on it to open up the second window. The graphics are quite beautiful and worth taking a look at. I, for one, look forward to the future announcements on this product and will be eager to see how it progresses. Thank you for your patience, Paul.

Dear everybody!!-DAZ came up trumps!
That was the mail I was sort of playing on.. I just spoke with DAZ, and they tell me
Environments Creators Version II for Poser 5
"IS TO BE RELEASED THIS AFTERNOON"
=which means either now or in the next hour or so.
It was, indeed, all a mistake. The marketing dept. wanted to give the product double focus, since Poser 5 is not DAZ core- business, but they like the product. Quite understandable too, if you think of the fact two people recently changed places.
So: DAZ never meant to make you do things you don't want to, and they also tell me, they will release my next Tool- keep you posted- for Poser 5 as well.
Can we hear some applause here, please? I think it's great- and also quite a relief to have this cleared up.
Dialyn and others: am planning to write a short tutorial, which shows you how EC works, so you'll understand what it is.
I'm very busy just now, but the thing will be there somewhere middle this week, my site
http://www.pcbos.nl
follow link "Poser"
So, in short: Environment Creators, Version II is to be found at DAZ
Attached Link: http://www.pcbos.nl
:-)) Well, I meant applause for my DAZ friends, in fact.. , Or for you all, certainly not for me. I've done pretty little- except answering tons of email, but that's always OK with me. But I will tell them from you, dialyn! And you get your closer look at EC later this week, promise. Cheers, Paul ChristiaanAttached Link: http://www.pcbos.nl
Hi there, as promised: I put up a page with Images, and a short tutorial as well- on my site. Should be with DAZ as well, later this week or the next.Thought you might like to know a bit earlier. It's not a manual, just something to show you how the main parts work and what kind of lighting you can create, more or less out of the box- Let me know if you miss something. tech@pcbos.nl Oh yes: http://www.pcbos.nl follow link "Poser" Cheers, Paul ChristiaanThis site uses cookies to deliver the best experience. Hello everybody, this is a message to all interested, to tell you that, though EC II for Poser 5 has been finalized, and ECII for Poser 4 is now selling through DAZ, DAZ decided not to sell the Poser 5 version, since it won't have anything to do with Poser 5- or so I understand. I will now have to find another outlet for the Poser 5 version. Will post the outcome here as soon as I've found one. Yours, Paul Christiaan
