Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 11 12:18 am)
PH Yes. Vicky3 has morphs to make her anything from a variety of bombshell beauts to a slender MAN, to an old women, to a mishapen, crooked tooth, gingivitis suffering imperfect person. A pregnant woman, an obese woman and the list goes on to include Orc, goblin, you name it. The mesh is high poly count where its needed in the joints and face, etc, so is much easier to get a smooth morph. And the muscles and tendons are more realistic as well. Check on WWW.daz3d.com under V3 and you can see images of morphed Vicky, Victor, Monster, Etc. Hope that helps. E
I'd advise against flourescents except for very specific cases- I remember a stage production of Sparticus where the whole second half was purposely done under flourescents instead of standard theatre lights. It nearly gave some audience members headaches. Also, its easy to create "ugly" faces with the face room in P5 (but I don't know if you've got that or not.)
Thanks to all the people who replied, I was not expecting so fast and so kind answers....but I'm getting aware of the fact that I forgot to tell you what version of Poser I was using. and the models I had...so...I use Poser ProPack, Posette, Dork, Vic 1, Mike 1, V2 and M2. I can't use Poser 5 for some obvious reasons: I'm on a mac. As for V3, I just can't buy her now...And mainly not yet in my priorities because I'm really starting up on the 3D modeling hobby (I'm not constant at practicing and I have less time to play now...) As for fluorescent lighting (I'm talking about those white tubes that light the offices at no cost), it's because this is the kind of lighting that is used in a metro wagon... Thank you all for your kind and understanding answers... PH
Teeth are dead easy to reproduce if you have either the Millennium Teeth or Victoria 3 (V3 effectively has the Mill Teeth built in). Imperfect body shapes can be achieved pretty well by "spinning the dials" on M2, V2 and V3. Add in some natural textures and bump maps, and you're laughing (well, maybe not. :)) Lighting? Blue/green globals, IMO. Hard shadows, so bang up your shadow maps. Turn off shadows from all but your overhead lights.
Coppula eam se non posit acceptera jocularum.
Another thing that might help achieve "real" people would be to edit some of the texture maps in Photoshop or its equivalent to add acne, moles, scars, tattoos, blotches, etc. Most people I know do not have nice smooth, flawless skin like Vicky and Mike. The Golden Girls textures/morphs set above are great for creating realistic older women--from the cuddly grandma to the crotchety crone and everything in between. The Millennium teeth are 19.99 USD but they let you do straight, crooked, and missing teeth, denture, and normal, diseased and healing gums. They fit all the Mil people--even the kids.
Shameless plug: I have 2 "Real World Peeps" in the Marketplace, Gertrude and Frank. They are NOT the common Poser beauty. But not ugly either. Just.... real. My Victor for V3 - in Free Stuff - is also an example of a rather "normal" looking person, imoo.

Yes, Gertrude and Frank are great. :) They have a lot of personality. And PoserWorld has some clothes that fit the more amply built people. Always hard to find nice clothes for the larger sizes (ask me how I know, I dare you). I just noticed, if you want older types, that Daz has their senior citizens at a discount in the Loft.
i think ultramorph woman 3 is still available in free stuff and she is for the p4 woman. She has a huge number of morphs that can be used and while not as realistic perhaps as Vicky3, with a good eye for detail and some postwork you could get some very lovely ordinary people .. and i do mean lovely since i see beauty in most everyone .. smiles. Namaste, ~o
Thank you all, really ! I said "ugly" in opposition to "very beautiful" or "supermodel"...I did not mean ugly in the sense of looking at the person and going away terrified...I should have said "ordinary"... To buy anything related to Poser is out of question now (did not I mention I was a massage therapist ? I got to eat and pay the rent first... :-)) )...sorry for those who put forth the easy "buy it !" fix... Amazing, the warmth of your answers, given the fact that I answered some little questions expecting to be hit hard by those die hard "NVIAT" fans... Magnets, I will surely give a try sometimes when the case asks for (angst, angst...is there any sure way to CONTROL those #%#@&?%* things)... Texture maps seem another effective way to achieve some results... I'll get out the models out of the moth balls to play and tweak them a little... Again, thank you for your time and effort answering. PurpleHayes
The easiest way to make an ordinary person with Mike 2 and Vic 2 is just to adjust the dials. You can get it pretty close to what you want with them. Don't be afraid to adjust every one of em just to figure out what they do. Positive and negative is what I do. I also get a picture of someone and just try to get some of the features that they have that I want to achieve. I am not trying to perfect a person but just use what they have that makes them un-poser like. When you have played with the dials enough you can sort of figure out what you want to do to make the figures your own. I always add a bump to the nose and make the lips narrower for Michael. It is just my thing, but then you cna go from there. And for the textures they sometimes need some roughing up but a lot o that can also be done in post.

Some of us really like to see more realistic figures, clothing, and settings in graphics....nothing againt the Vicky in the temple group but it's just a nice change of pace. I was going to comment on the fact that there are plenty of people who fit between beautiful and ugly in this world and aren't at either degree but I didn't get the feeling from your post (and I don't think the others did either) that you were being mean spirited...just working on an idea and needed some help. I know what you mean by needing to watch costs...but I think you're hearing about some low cost alternatives. Dr. Geep is holding a morph tutorial right now (just started today)...he may throw out some ideas that will help you in your cause. :)Attached Link: Bigger Image Here :)
Just a quick messing around with some stuff. :) To give you an idea of what can be done with freebie and relatively cheap stuff. :) In this pic we have V2 with custom face morph, hair by Studio Maya, Skin is Janjay from freestuff (with some alterations), necklace from freestuff, Dresscoat Italia (1.99 in DAZ's Platinum Club) with freebie tex, Glasses from Ahh, Paris pack from RDNA (but I'm sure others could be found around freestuff) zits are a prop I made in Rhino duplicated all over the face with different colors applied and transparencies applied and a light bit of cloning in post to make them blend into the skin. Only postwork in this image is softening and lightening the piece a bit, a touch of noise for the photographic look and the touchups on the zits. :) Hope this helps you see that "normal" people can be achieved with what you already have lying around and some imagination. Kymm (bigger pic is available in my gallery)Remember...getting lost is the senic route to the eventual destination. (And a lot prettier than the straight road)
I really like this image. The Vickys in the Temple are a dime a dozen these days (if that much), but this is a portrait of someone who could walk into the real world, who has her dreams and fantasies beneath her quiet exterior, who might be overlooked for flashier women and so be missed when she has much to offer. Very nice real person. And I don't think she's all that plain...lots of warmth to that character. Good job.
Yes this picture is really something :o) VERY well done! Truely believable character, unlike the Nude Vickies and the fantasy creatures - not that there's anything wrong with those, mind you.

There is nothing wrong with beautiful people. There is nothing wrong with fantasy. There is nothing wrong with science fiction. There is nothing wrong with nudes. It's just boring when that's all there is. I like variety. :) Seems like people are working on bringing some diversity into their graphics and that is great to see.

So, this post is not a complaint, nor is it an attempt at trolling, and it surely is not a flame war starter. Read carefully before ever considering to reply with a vengeance. But I got to ask... I use public transit while going to work, and I am given a lot of time to observe the other people there. Obviously, the ladies there are not your current "perfect 20 years old vickie", nor the guys your average "muscled mike". While at work also (I'm a massage therapist), I always encounter not-so-perfect bodies and not-so-perfect faces. Also, the lighting is quite crude. Questions: 1-) Are there morph targets that could give the effect of a real obese person (it's not just a matter of tweaking the proportions), or do I have to master and practice the use of magnets ? 2-) Teeth...most people don't have perfect teeth (unless they wear dentures, and even there, result not garanteed...), some people have bigger teeth, some more going towards the front of the lips, some have missing teeth, so... are there existing imperfect tweakable teeth objects ? 3-) Are there morph target to reproduce the ordinary people, not only beautiful and young, but aged and ugly too... 4-) If you answer yes, can you redirect me on sites or images that feature such morph targets (and surely textures). 5-) How to reproduce the glow of a fluorescent tube (maybe not the good word on english) ? Thanks a great lot in advance PH
