Subject: highlights with trans map?

bluevenus ( ) posted Fri, 07 February 2003 at 10:48 AM · edited Fri, 24 January 2025 at 5:01 PM

Hello :) I am working on a trans map, and as you can see the highlights still seem to show up on parts that are transparent. Is there any way around this? Thanks! -Jenna

The highlight color has to be black when you use a transmap otherwise you'll see them where you're not supposed to. No way around it that I know of. :( Lisa

I know of a way around it! In Poser 4: Copy the transmap and paste it on top of the texture in Photoshop, change the blend mode to "Multiply", flatten, and save as the texture map. Then make sure "Apply to highlight" is checked. In Poser 5: Assign the transmap also to the Highlight node. Gimme a sec to show you what I mean...

The picture on the left is a quite random texture, created through a photoshop filter. The picture on the right is the same one with the map i used below as a transmap, copied on top and set to "multiply", then flattened.

The sphere on the left has the left hand texture applied as the texmap, and a greyscaled version applied as a bump map. Notice the "invisible" parts are still shiny? The Sphere on the right has the right hand texture applied, but no other changes. Note that only the areas where there actually is something are shiny. Both have "Apply texture to highlight" checked. Oh, and these are straight P4 renders, no post work. The reason this works is that if something is COMPLETELY black, i.e., r 0/g 0/b 0, then it sheds no highlight at all in Poser. Cheers!
