Subject: Poser grouping tool.

Can anybody help please, with info on the use of the Poser 4 grouping tool. I know how to use it to highlight one body section, but I want to make some clothing items. This would mean joining maybe two or three body sections or parts of body sections together. Can I do that and how, thanks. Dave

i've used the grouping tool to take parts from one prop and attached it to another exported it as obj and reimported it which made it into one prop.these were machine type props that had mostly square parts.info on how to do this is all in the user guide.i don't think this will work for clothing unless the polygons line up exactly.you could use the grouping tool to,lets say take the sleeves from one shirt and the body of another and take these into a modeling prog and create a single model.then you'd have to make it conformable.

Try importing the reference geom.obj for the model you want, then use the group editor to select parts from the geom.obj. Or select body parts of the cr2 file in the Hierarchy Editor, then export those as bodyparts.obj, for use with the group editor.

Thank's for the help and suggestions, I will try the suggested methods. I was obviously misunderstanding the grouping tool. Dave

I have never never had any luck at all with the grouping tool. I have spent hours and hours trying to get it to work and it doesn't seem to want to do anything for me. Good luck

Dr Geep has a lovely tutorial on the grouping tool. Search this Forum under "primer" or his name and you should find it.

Thanks for the tutorial info, I'm just off to seek it out. Dave

Just one reminder : if you use the grouping tool to cut some geometry from an item and paste it onto your own creations, this is called "ripping". It is considered just like taking part of someone else's model, so it's all right if you use it only for you, but you'll have to ask permission if you want to redistribute/sell it. Compiler

Thank's for the info compiler, but this is just for the purpose of making some clothes for Vicky and Mike for personal use. I'm not sure I shall ever even get round to actual conforming clothes, they will probably only be suitable for one image at a time. I can in theory just model the clothes in ZBrush from a primitive or Zspheres, but it can be difficult to fit them to the figure. Its not the modelling I have a problem with, it's the technical stuff. Dave
