THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: More nice lighting stuff!

Playing with lighting in Bryce. This image is composed of a Base-layer, a Specular layer, a GI layer and a DOF layer. All composed with some custom masks and several renders to get the pergect GI and Specular layers. Does it look like a quality render? or is it still the basic bryce?

The model is a freebee by proton (one of the previous posts, I don't know wich one has a link). The model was quite jaggy, but it was a Sub-d model so I took it into a more professional program to subdivide it before taking it into bryce.

it looks great, but IMO, there is a bit much specularity-he looks to be made of a very rough rock, which wouldn't have specular highlights like that. I would think that the whatever specularity there would be on such a surface would be on ALL the faces on the character, rather than appearing like he is made of smooth plastic. Other than that, great! I can't find anything that would tip one off to it being a Bryce scene

This is a cool image, no matter how you made it!

Very nice cept postwork so really not bryce that's making it look so good eh? One other thing, the specularity really hurts my eyes. Maybe it's just me, but I think it looks a tad unnatural.

Agree with tjohn. Doesn't matter how you did it, I like it a whole lot. Then, knowing how you did it helps to understand it better (and to learn a lot). Stefano

Amazing what you can do with a bit of spit and plasticene..

Hey it's officer Ted Russel from "Time Patrol". Now where's that sissy robot Larry 3000? Weird materials, but looks cool.

Rayraz, great job done as usual and I reckon he is so shiney because who wants to be a dull old stone, he must have had a wash and wax I like it very much. "the specularity really hurts my eyes. Maybe it's just me, but I think it looks a tad unnatural" Unnatural Ornlu?, pray tell what is natural about a stone man anyway.....8) Catlin

Thanx for all your comments and responses. I'll fiddle with the specularity. Maybe I can get it to look like it's a stone model wrapped in a shiney plastic hull? that would be cool. It should be easy to do with a layer with only a soft diffusion light and no bumps. catlin_mc: you got it exactly right. Without the specularity he would just look kind of dull. pauljs75: It's Ted Russel from "Time squad" (as it's know in my country). I haven't found a larry 3000 model yet maybe it's in the proton collection? I'l check to see. Ornlu: There is a slight amount of postwork involved, but basiccally most of the work on the layers is pure bryce. It IS bryce that's the basic reason of this scene looking so good. The only thing I miss in bryce textures is the ability to layer them and give each layer different modes like screen, multiply and dodge. So that's what I used postwork for. I hope corel implements such a feature in Bryce 6. That would make the TE really powerfull.

slight nitpick: it's kinda strange that the background ground is so blurry and the stars are in perfect focus. Btw, I like the texture on the guy, it looks like he was dipped in plastic.
