Subject: New To Vue

Well, New would be an overstatement. On the advice of a friend, I've ordered a Vue bundle. Vue 4, Mover 4 and Poser 4. As an avid Mac user, here's my situation. I know Vue 4 is Mac OSX ready. Is Mover 4? And even though this isn't the Poser forum, I'm hoping someone else is in this situation. Does Poser 4 work well in classic mode, or am I going to be rebooting into 9 to work with Poser, and then going back to OSX for Vue? All the rest of my production environment is in X, so I'm hoping poser will work there too. And finally, I'm currently using Bryce 4 in Classic. I've already choosen to go to Vue from Bryce, since I placed the order today, but am I gonna be happy? Michael

I know that you can not import a pz3 (poser scene) into Vue while Poser is open, you will have to close Poser to import it. That is about all I know regarding your situation. Sharen

I think you will be impressed. I worked with Bryce for a long time and had never looked back! Vue (including Mover 4) works well on my Mac OS X 10.15. And will be better with 10.2.x i think. Poser import works well. Only with bump maps from Poser (.bum) problems could appear. But i am definetly sure, that this will be fixed in Vue 4.12. Poser is running in classic mode without problems. That there is still no OS X version out is something i gave up complaining. Curious Labs are unbelivably slow in supporting the Mac platform. Which is a shame, because nobody should forget that Poser was originally a Mac software! Anyway, welcome to the world of Vue. If you have any question or you need help - let us know. Walther

Welcome to Vue for OS X!

You will be happy with your choice. Mover 4 is supported for OS X. Make sure you upgrade to Vue 4.11, expecially if you're running Jaguar, and if you are running Jaguar, upgrade that to version 10.2.3 right away.

You should also save often, especially when editing materials and functions. The nice thing is that you can save while editing. E-on software is working on correcting the problems with multi-threading in the Jaguar environment. The latest version 4.11 has helped tremendously.

I have not yet used Poser extensively, but I haven't had any problems running it in Classic Mode.

E-on software is very good about support, and this forum is also a great resource. Everyone is very nice. I just wish I had as much experience as the rest here.

Good luck and congratulations!

Thanks for the positive words. My Jag is up to date, does E-on support the software update of OSX? I mean, will software updates automatically find and install Vue 4.11? Also, I've a particular model I've built in Bryce. (Yes, i know bryce isn't a modeler, sue me.) Can I get it over to Vue?

I think Bryce only exports terrains, like Vue. You might want to check in Bryce forum. Vue doesn't import Bryce formatted objects like obp, and Bryce doesn't import Vue vobs either.

First thing. No, i think e-on is not supporting OSX software update. I don't think that there are many companies (beside Apple) which do so. Second. I think you must forget your Bryce model. Even when you can export the terrain from Bryce (as obj file), you can't import it into Vue as a terrain. It will be a polygon model. And that will have different qualities than a terrain. To Ace Face. "Experience" comes from experiment and means learning by testing/doing. Very simple, use Vue and you will be experienced soon. Thats what we all are doing. And helping each others - even when it's only means discussing things - helps a lot too to get more experience.

Oh well. I rendered that model last night, and it is less than perfect. It's basically a simple project to recreate using the primatives. I built it this way so that I can explode it later. I included every brick, pieces of Morter, roof trusses made up from individual planks. Took a while, but it totally taxed Bryce, huge polygon count. But the result is a small house, more like a bunker, that I can animate a missile into and it explodes, completly. Pretty cool, but mostly useless.

You can save a Bryce terrain map to the clipboard from the Terrain Editor, and then save as an image file from an image editor. Can Vue utilize these grayscales in its terrain editor?
