Sometimes, I'm really amazed at the effects possible through the use of both the terrain editor and 2d picture objects in Bryce. So I thought my concentration on this month's "God of Bryce" subject should be those areas . . . . Please note. . . . ALL BRYCE!! . . . all 2d face textures were created in Illustrator and Photoshop. The hand and glowing figure. . . . created in Poser were saved as 2d images . . . . . placed as 2d pic objects in Bryce. . . . . . . Planet textures designed in Photoshop using my grid map process for surface placements on spheres . . . . . . portal and base units composed of symmetrical lattice objects with height matching 2d pict textures (some pic images can be seen in the control touchpad at bottom right which is a terrain object with matching 2d textures . . . . . . . all other textures . . . .2d picts . . . picts. . . picts. . . Hope you enjoy! : )

Very chaotic, very cool too. Not too sure about the green/black terrain on the right side of the pic.

I tried to create the effect of hanging curtain materials on both the left and right sides. The effect is created by assigning a scaled material on triangle objects. Still have to experiment on that one. . . .

Yeah looks like it has potential but the material itself looks too... stretched.

Very cool!.. but hehe.. I would think 2d picture planes would fall under the "import" category... better ask the judges on this one ?

Seems to me that 2d picture planes would fall under the "it's alright to import textures" category...and thus perfectly legal. ;) But that is just one man's opinion.

perhaps claymor... but for some reason that seems to go against the spirit of what drac wanted from this challenge... I may be interpreting it wrong also. If we can use 2d pictures in that way, heck we could render absolutely any scened we wanted, take that render's pict and apply it to a new 2d picture in a new scene and render that.. and tada.. no imports! I think using a picture of a poser hand is the same as using an imported poser hand ;).. but just as you say.. that's just on man's opinion. That aside, I still think it's a top notch sci-fi scene!

"I think using a picture of a poser hand is the same as using an imported poser hand" I completely agree.

While I can completely agree with both of you that an image of an object could be construed as using the object itself...AND while I really don't feel militantly strong about it either way... I also think that the challenge is about highlighting the strengths of the program...one of which is the ability to use 2D images. Perhaps the compromise would be that you could use 2D images...but NOT 2D images of models created in other programs!! LOL

Personally I think the ability to combine 2d picts in an interesting way is still a skill. Look at Terry Gilliam. It's a good pic and I like it, but it doesn't really convey a sense of awe and wonder to me, which is what I associate with dieties. I wish I had some suggestion on how to do that. Perhaps the contest creators will weigh in on the subject of 2d picts. Lin
