Kendra created a tutorial to show how she did her waterfall effect. What a wonderful idea. Thank you for sharing it! I know this was discussed before about how one would do it...this was the first I saw of someone explaining it, and I really appreciate it. It looks great. And if you haven't checked out Kendra's gallery, You really sould. Another treasure of the galleries. :)

Thanks for the link. What a great tutorial!

Thanks dialyn. I'd never written a tutorial before so I hope it works. :) I just saved screenshots and typed comments as I went along. :) (happy birthday, by the way)

Oh Wow Kendra...great tutorial! Thanks for writing it and thanks for the heads up Dialyn! Now, Kendra, are you going to do one on how you did that great water too?

EricofSD ( ) posted Tue, 11 February 2003 at 8:47 PM

Fantastic. I'm so used to doing that in Bryce, but to get Poser to work with scenes like that is a real joy.

Dizzie, the water material is from PoserPros. One that someone offered for download back when P5 was so new. I'll see if I can find the link. I just added a texture and then played with the colors and lighting.

Here's the link. If it's not available anymore you'll have to email him. A great place to start with water.

Thank you, Kendra. The link to the zip file seems to still work. :)

Wow, someone finally made a tutorial on this! And it's a beautiful work, Kendra! A few months ago I found out a similar method for waterfalls. Additionally I tweaked the tip-width and hair-width. So you can get a more whirling appearance of the water masses tumbling down. A similar method can be applied to flames (made from hair wich goes up). I agree with Kendra, that a low number of hairs most is important so the "stranded" appearance of falling water or flickering flames works out well. Willy

I'm guessing, though I wouldn't have a clue how to do it, that something similar could be done to create water coming out of a faucet or a hose. Clever people, you both are. :)

At first position the hose mouth aiming down. Then you'll have to use the first facets _inside_ of the hose or faucet. Grow some hair on them and "pull" them down. Stylize it and test render. There are numerous application of these thingies, not only as hair or gras. Just for fun, I made a hedgehog :-)

BTW, here's the fire. I think it would look best in an animation, as it doesn't have too much detail.

Aaargh! Now I notice.... Please, folks, don't be angry with me because I hijacked this thread. I was just taken away by Kendra's beautiful tutorial. Her water flowing from the cliff and around the rocks is awesome! I think, the hair room is one of CL's greatest feats, comparable to the material room. Ok, that's my opinion :-) Willy

dialyn ( ) posted Fri, 14 February 2003 at 6:06 PM

I thought you continued the thread in the direction it was going. I think your hedgehog is darling. And your other ideas are great. Not having to managed anything useful in the hair room, I'm awed by what everyone is achieving with it. Gives me hope. :)

Kendra ( ) posted Fri, 14 February 2003 at 11:48 PM

You didn't hijack it. :) That fire looks pretty cool. I'll have to try that. And yeah, the tip width and root width can add alot of versatility to it. You made that look like it was really rushing down. :)
Love your hedgehog. I once tried to fur up the Daz deer. Need more practice. :)

Pheeew! I'm glad you see it this way, dialyn! :-) Kendra, the hedgehog also has hair with modified with settings (root width, IIRC) which can be seen by the "triangular" look of the spikes. BTW, this is an easy way to give the spikes a more dense look, as there ar not so many of them (ca. 200-300). Willy PS: I confess, I was not in the Poser since weeks ago. But I'm planning an astronomical observatory. Buildings and all. Especially the distinct domes they use for the big guns (=telescopes ;-) are a little tricky. I have a dome with the slit and a moveable cover made in the way Dr.Geep taught us in his tutorials (cutting primitives into the needed form and making obj-files of them). See the picture above. If (and when) it's ready, it will be my first freebie here.
