Subject: Deanna Troy

I downloaded the "Deanna Troy" model and she does something that no other model I have does...not only do I get the series of "Poser 4 whine boxes", but she gets her texture anyway. Sometimes I don't even get the option to search for a texture, but instead I just get a "file not found" message. In any event, she always loads, texture intact. But the really weird thing is, she is the only model I have who maintains her rendered texture throughout all movement! Even when I apply a few of my own textures to her, I never have to render her except to change a texture!! How can I get my other models to behave this way? Thanks.... Mike

ummm... can you explain that... a bit differently? model's shouldn't lose their texture just because you move them. (pose them). do you mean, if you move her obj files, or her cr2? or do you mean you moved the texture maps? if her uniform and stuff have coloured materials, they will appear normal, even without textures. but i dont know of any material settings that will make anybody's skin look textured. you shouldn't have to render anything just to change a texture. (unless you change the picture file of the texture and need poser to 'reload' it.) i dunno, if all your figures acted that way, i'd say you have a serious bug. :) so... maybe try to splain that again. :)

Okay, I'll try to explain this as well as I can: First of all, the .zip file didn't contain the clothing or even a "painted on" texture of clothes. She is nude. If I want to see a rendering of, say, the P4 Nude Woman, I have to press render in the toolbar at the top of the interphase, and then I see her skin texture, eye color, etc. But with Deanna, she loads in already textured, and I don't mean the standard default texture... you know, the way they look in the Libraries window. What I meant by "move" is whgen I POSE her, she maintains that texture as she is moved around the document window. Now, P4 Nude woman loads with that "plastic-looking" skin. If I want to see her "natural" skin (based on the texture map), I have to press Render and wait for the shadow maps, and then you get the little guy sidestepping across the progress window, and then her texture map loads and she looks almost real. The second I move (pose) her, the texture vanishes and I'm back to the plastic look. Not so with Deanna... she looks quite real throughout ALL poses and movements. Now ya got me wondering...is there something wrong with HER, or is there something wrong with everyone else? Whatever it is,... there is something VERY different about her than all of my other characters.

I'm probably the least qualified to answer this, but perhaps the Troi character sets the Document or Figure Style (in the Display menu) to Texture Shaded? This mode will behave as you describe, with the textures holding throughout a pose. Just a thought. Regards- Lemurtek

Well, I hadn't thought of that... Thanks! But, this brings me to the next thing; Yes, in fact, the window is set to texture shaded, and when I try to use any of the other textures, such as "outline", she still remains texture shaded... will not change... I'm beginning to think she's possessed.

lol! okay! well... go to the... oh, some menu in the middle and check out 'figure style.' she might be set to be texture mapped, no matter what the rest of the document is set to. if you want her to change, then make the figure 'use document style.' of course, if you want the opposite, then change all your figures to 'use texture shaded,' and they'll be just the same way. :)

Yep. That works. Thanks alot! :) I've only had Poser 4 for slightly over a week now, and I'm trying to learn all this stuff at once, but it's getting easier now.
