Hi all. I'm in Poser 4. I just download some files from DAZ thinking this will solve all my problems that I've been having. Only thing is, it don't. They are still there, maybe even worse than before. Now, here's the thing... I think I know why... All the textures I just bought and downloaded are .jpgs. Things like makeup and skin textures and all. Don't these need to be in something else, a .bum or something, for it to work without pro-pack?

GraphicFoxx ( ) posted Thu, 20 February 2003 at 11:19 PM

Only bump maps need to be in .bum Load up a bump map, and Poser will ask you if you want to convert it. Just say yes. And what is your problem, exactly?

There is a solid color with no texture on her body. the DAZ makeup doesn't work, the DAZ hi-res textures don't work. Eyelashes, eyes, all that don't work. I'll try to create the poblem and upload a picture.

Do they show up in your finished renders, but not in your regular work-window? That would indicate you're not in textured-preview mode. My Poser is busy doing a 2+hour render, so I can't check what the exact name is, but there should be a row of small spheres on your Poser Screen. Pause your cursor over them and tool-tips will say they represent "wireframe" "cartoon" and such. click on the last one in the row to change to textured preview. If that doesn't do it, most textures sold these days come with MAT Pose files. Make sure that you've got the correct character selected, then dbl-clk on the MAT pose file to apply to that character. Hope some of this helps....

Are you applying those textures to DAZ figures? You didn't specify... e.d.

Also, the material colors of the figure need to be set to white, so the texture map's colors show up. Otherwise any color with multiply with the color of the texture. The manual explains about setting materials.

Yes, I am applying them to DAZ figures. And no, they do not end up in either my finished renders or my preview, which is in texture-preview mode. I downloaded the hi-res textures from DAZ, and when I went to the mat pose injector nothing worked. When I double click (or click the texture and then the check mark) nothing happens. I went through and manually loaded all the files, and they all worked, and they all seemed to be "converted" and all that. (.jpgs and such into .bums) Then when I clicked on the texture (either hires makeup or natural) it seems to work. But it didn't until I made those changes manually. Now it works even through a reboot. Makes me wonder if I'd have these problems with Pro-Pack. Also, makes me wonder if there isn't something similar going on with the base V3 that I have... that some bump files aren't converted and that's why she looks cartoony. Clearly this isn't just as easy as I thought, or hoped, it would be. I'm still having fun, but it is a bit discouraging.

Does V3 go from pink to white when you click the MAT file? And are you using the ones in !Mat V3 or !MAT V3 MapsHi - it's the latter you want, either !V3MakeUpHi or !V3NaturalHi. Only the texture files with names ending with a 'B' need to be converted to BUMs for P4 - the rest are straight textures and work as jpgs.

heyas; also make sure your poser 'knows' what a jpg is. try going to the materials setting (any one, it doesn't matter) and hitting load a texture (for any slot). look at the drop-down list of what types of files you can load. if you're missing anything like gif and jpg, you need to install quicktime on your machine. then poser will know what a jpg is, and be able to use it.
