THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Something I realized about the Renderosity Magazine...

I've been working in my campus newspaper for 4 years now, and I think I can speak for the printed word community when I say that a cover without a face on it, or rather without any sort of "action" is boring and will not be picked up from the stands. Basically the cover of a magazine, newspaper, etc. has to be catchy to the eye, and it has to present a question or an activity to the brain. In the case of Renderosity, I think we might as well take it as a given that poser will always steal the front cover. Covers have to have or suggest movement. So yeah, flame away, but I think that kinda sucks ;) Drac

Not a flame, but take a look at the covers of 3D World and Computer Art magazines. I haven't seen too many Poser images there, and there aren't always faces. I don't know who chooses the cover images for Renderosity magazine, but I have a feeling you'll eventually see a broader range of images. There are some very nice Poser images in the gallery here, but after a few pages, they do tend to blur together. And (I'm a little prejudiced here) I think that Poser objects always look better when rendered in Bryce.

This is not my "second childhood". I'm not finished with the first one yet.

I wonder if magazine covers with people or things that look like people are more attractive than covers with things on them? So far most of the 'rosity covers have people on them. Wonder if I need to start modeling/morphing faces to get on the 'rosity magazine cover?

On the side of human nature (vanity) ;) , what intrigues us most is US. Any activity concerning humans or the subject of interaction with humans is a magnet.

I think the operative word here is definitely magazine. It is true, faces, especially female faces are attractive and result in more sold copies. But, the same is not true, in my opinion, for book covers. Here, the image is secondary to the title and the author, sometimes even in reverse order. This may be off topic here, but just wanted to share an observation, see if you agree on it.

Looking at my Sci fi and fantasy bookshelf, I could see that there are more books with people/creatures on it than ones with abstract/objects.

I was in Dallas this past weekend and saw my first copy of Renderosity, the magazine (#4). I picked it up and scanned through it. Quite nice. However...I didn't buy it. Why, because it was $12. I pay $9 for a computer journal of similar length (50-60 pages) most months, but it is directly applicable to my programming career. I really liked the look of the Renderosity magazine, however, it was a bit too expensive for my tastes. At least considering it was only 50 or 60 pages. Still, it was very beautiful, with fantastic images, high quality printing, nice paper, etc. Keep up the great work everyone!

I have #4 right here. The paper is high quality and every page is color. That's gotta cost. I'm sure the $9 mag has a lot of black and white with thinner paper.

I have a Barnes and Nobles semi-close to me that sells the Renderosity magazine. That kind of printing does cost bucks. My brother is VP of a printing supply company here in So. California, he was surprised they went that far as quality of paper and printing, majority of magazines just don't/won't do it. I strongly suggest getting a subsription, though. It costs less and with subscribed magazines, you get the content CD with each issue. The ones in the bookstaores don't come with the CD's. --- The upcoming issue of 3D World Magazine has Rochr's pic on the front cover, I would guess that his guy in the pic is a Poser figure, but no, you don't really see obvious Poser figures on mag covers. The folks that make Codewarrior (developer tools) had a poser figure in a recruitment ad. They had a female poser figure in camo carrying a gun. It was in a copy of game developer.

it would be good it, say a Poser images, makes the cover, Poser images would be excluded the next month, if a Bryce image wins, Bryce is excluded the next month and so on and so on.. No disrespect to any app, but there is really cool work being done in all applications...Just browse the galleries

What happens if its a Poser/Bryce image or a Lightwave/Posers image?

bclaytonphoto ( ) posted Thu, 27 February 2003 at 12:16 PM

There is one easy answer..Only allow Mojo World images !! :-)..Just kidding!! I dunno...I was just trying to be fair to everyone

Yeah it could get more complicated. What happens if you have an image that uses meshes from Poser, Lightwave and is rendered in Bryce and postworked in Photoshop? Lets see if the next cover has a person on it.
