There are lot of fantastic renderers for soft like Maya, Cinema4D, 3DSMax,... They usually work as plugins . Maybe you know this one which is new , cheap (~50dollars) and seems very good : http://www.3dvirtualight.com/ as it as lot of things like radiosity and GI and much more. Do you think it could be possible to enable such plugins in Vue5, if there is no planned radiosity or GI directly in the future soft ? Could be a great thing, to definitively take advantage on Bryce or other much higher price programs !!! Just to allow you to give your opinion on that subject, I'm sorry not having that idea at the time of Vue5 wishlist submission, ;=) Yves

We had this originally in our basically wishlist, but NOBODY voted for it.

Yves, programs like Vue or Bryce are highly specialised 3D programs. They use all these fractal things to create terrains or vegetations. Therefore i think its not possible that plugins like those you mensioned can deal with these specialities. Other programs like Cinema or 3D Studio can't either. Thats why you can't export/import terrains etc into those programs. And don't forget, we are in the low price segment - even when the results can be high quality!

One day your ship comes in - but you're at the airport.

You can also use fractal based height scales as well in the material channels. Thought it best to clarify ;o) Cheers

Maybe a plugin is not so difficult to do (e-on could answer to that). For example Moray which is a modeler Shareware for 50$ works with Povray which is free and has radiosity and now photon mapping. Moray can create terrains. In addition Moray is open to lot of free plugins. One inconvenient of Povray/Moray is the materials which are not easy to create :=(

The recend Cinema 4d R8 version is able to handle radiosity, but if you use it your rendertime in- creases trememdously.I don't think that Vue 5 would be faster with that...:-)

Well, radiosity IS very computation-heavy--at least if you do it properly. On the other hand, the results with C4D's radiosity feature are very nice indeed. Check the linked image out for an example. It's from a friend of mine, hopefully the full SMM-site (with animations and stuff) will be online, soon.

As for YL's suggestion: I made the same to e-on and I think here on renderosity, a while ago. Haven't received any feedback for some time now. I do see a problem getting a plugin renderer to work properly, mainly because Vue's own primitives are mathematic primitives and not polygon meshes. Say, a cylinder is always a "perfect" cylinder. You'd probably have to convert it into a more usual polygon mesh for most offline renderers to cope with it. Not as if that were hard to do, but, eh. we'll see.

I would really like to see the C4D R8 approach with Vue5--assembling your "own" Vue5 package according to your needs would be excellent. But I've rambled about that before, so I better just stop. ;)
