Subject: Star Craft models?

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Fri, 28 February 2003 at 2:22 PM · edited Fri, 08 November 2024 at 10:23 AM

Anybody know of any Star Craft models floating around? I've seen the ones on Greylight, but they're for Poser 3 and it shows :o) Preferably some of the stranger looking types, but anything will do.

There was one of the hive guys once but that is the only one I have seen and that was a few years ago. Alien head, serpentine body, can't remember the name.

At FreeStuff there's a Hydralisk, for Lightwave and Poser 4.

Hawkfyr ( ) posted Fri, 28 February 2003 at 3:13 PM

The Hydralisk is actually pretty cool. were you looking for characters or models(units)? Tom

I just IM'ed the member here and she got it to me without joining the group. OT I bought Starcraft/Expansion a couple years ago and never even opened it until a few months ago. I got hooked and love the game. There is a new expansion pack due out soon by Blizzard called "Ghost". I'm anxious to check that out also. Now,...if Blizzard would only come out with Diablo III. Good luck Tom

BTW the Hydralisk's are part of the Zerg. My favorite characters to play. I went to Greylight and none of the links worked. I never knew those models were even available. I'd like to have those also. Tom

I've also IM'ed her. Hope I'll hear from her soon then :o) Oooh a new expansion pack. Guess I know what my kid will be saving her pocket money for next then :o)

I love Starcraft, don't mess w/me and my Protoss ;) I never played w/the expansion, though, always wanted to try out the "dark archons" Ciao! Evo

Hawkfyr ( ) posted Fri, 28 February 2003 at 3:49 PM

Jackies son(Jon) loves the Protoss. They are by far the superior and I hate fighting the Protoss, but there is something I love about playing the Zerg. I like the Terran music the best though. "SPAWN MORE OVERLOARDS" lol Tom

Actually I don't think Ghost is an expansion pack .. From what I understand from looking at the game mags it is a third person shooter for the playstation 2 (not sure about other systems) and is more like halo or something like that with the same universe as the starcraft stuff.

lelionx ( ) posted Fri, 28 February 2003 at 5:02 PM

you can probably just rip whatever models you want from the game and convert to obj or whatever format you want.

Hawkfyr ( ) posted Fri, 28 February 2003 at 5:08 PM

Oh ..is that right? I'll have to go check it out. We don't have Playstation 2. 8 ( Tom

may be i'm thinking of a different game but i thought it was a pc game, one of the halflife games or mods, whatever you call them.

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Fri, 28 February 2003 at 10:28 PM

The info for it is here http://www.blizzard.com/ghost/ .. Is a console only game but it is on all ote major ones. Just not on the PC.

{you can probably just rip whatever models you want from the game and convert to obj or whatever format you want. } Sure, if you don't mind using 20x20 pixel models that can only be seen from top-views. StarCraft doesn't use true 3-D models in the game- they are isometric, top-down pixel maps. But, even if they did use 3-D models (such as WarCraft III), the polygon could is so extremely low that it would look terrible when imported into Poser. These types of games (WarCraft III, Quake 4, Unreal 5, Doom 3, whatever) boast a that their models have a "high polygon count" at around 1,000 polygons. In the game world, that's impressive. In the 3-d modelling word (including Poser) that kind of count is laughable. The Poser 4 figures have 5 times more polygons, Vicky 2 has 10 times as many and Vicky 3 probably has 20 times as many. You're better off finding a modeller who'll make these things for you from sratch and conevrted to Poser figures or props.

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Mon, 03 March 2003 at 10:07 AM

You're right, JohnRender. Game models are low poly even at best. But then I wouldn't have any idea of how to "rip" them, even if they DID look as I wanted them :o) As for the custom model stuff. It would sure be nice if someone would make some Star Craft models, but they would have to be free, this is only something I was asking for to please my 12 year old daughter :o) so she could combine her Star Craft mania with her growing interest in Poser :o)

a couple of years ago,one of the guys from "poser style" had a site with nothing but weapons models ripped from one of the pc games and about a year ago someone had a freebie here that had all the "max pain" weapons ripped from the game.i still have both of these collections and they are excellent.the textures on these models make poser textures look 3rd rate.converting or "ripping" the models is very easy to do using lopoly game modeling progs (that's short for programs)like milkshape, which has a 30 day demo,or 3d game studio.
