I need to make a scan of fine-mesh wire to use as a texture for American screen-doors. Any idea how I can do it? I have the mesh and I've tried a straight scan with white paper behind the wire. Awful. I then tried using the film transparency function, which is basically an illuminated strip on the top of the scanner and a matching strip below where you can fit 3 35mm slides. Results? Horrendous. Over-exposed, unsharp, unrecognisable. Tried it at various rezs and lineart options. Nada. I'd go hunting the net for the tex, but it's for a commercial package, so I really should make it myself. All suggestions gratefully accepted. mac

Draw it in Photoshop. It's easy enough.

PhilC, Total genius! Worked like a charm. Took me longer to find the Patchwork Filter than it did to make a chicken-wire image. LOL. I don't remember ever noticing it before. All it needed was a bit of Unsharpen and it looks perfect. Well, great.... now I can give my neighbor back her mesh and the hens will be safe from foxes again. Thanks mac PS Yes, TCSP. LOL@phil. Looks more like a wired chicken to me. bloodsong, I know it's screen and not chicken-wire. As you say, chicken-wire is much thicker with large hexs..... to....er.. keep the chickens inside. But I didn't like the title 'How can I scan screen?'. So I said 'chicken-wire' That's my story and I'm sticking to it. mac PS The patchwork filter is totally cool for making grids, something I never figured out how to do in PS.

maclean,When your useing a flatbed scanner to scan objects other than flat art(or film)...place a styrofoam cover/box/coffiecup/etc. over the object.That acts as a reflective light tent,that will give you good results. If you want a more 3D look...shine a bright desk lamp on one side of the box to give it sidelighting and shadows. SWAMP

Might try a digital camera or the old 135 camera. It gives much more control over lighting,etc. AGM

Someone I know was doing experiments in semi-3d scanning with roses and stuff like that. Your idea could be a nice touch. I'll give it a try. Could be useful for other things. mac
