Subject: Editing gallery pics to fit into new genre?.....

Zhann ( ) posted Thu, 27 February 2003 at 2:40 AM · edited Thu, 14 November 2024 at 9:59 AM

I was eboted from the team forum, the message was they'd like everyone to edit their gallery and select a genre to put the images into (along with the software catagory)...Agent Smith, does that mean editing all the images in one's gallery just to populate the genres (and the subsequent uploads)? That's alot of work and if like me, you're on dailup, alot of time as well...is this necessary? Just thought I'd ask....:)

Another point is that I've got all sorts of images in my gallery not all fitting into one genre. What does one do here? Carlin

Doh.........can't even spell my name right these days. 8} Catlin

SevenOfEleven ( ) posted Thu, 27 February 2003 at 12:59 PM

I was wondering about the genres. Guess I better get to work.

SevenOfEleven ( ) posted Thu, 27 February 2003 at 1:44 PM

Just came back from placing my pictures in a genre. Could lead to more comments, since some folks search by genre. Maybe there should be code that checks when people upload and asks for the genre since the default is "Choose genre".

Ornlu ( ) posted Thu, 27 February 2003 at 3:00 PM

I am on 28k, no way I can do that. Can't there be an option added to edit genre so you can select the genre of old images. I wouldn't think it'd be too hard.

Ornlu ( ) posted Thu, 27 February 2003 at 3:08 PM

I just wish there were 2 categories. Utilizing poser and not utilizing poser. It's not that I have anything against this program. I just get tired of seeing the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over... Know what I mean. Sorry if I sound bitter =P.

Doublecrash ( ) posted Thu, 27 February 2003 at 3:13 PM

LOL Ornlu, I know what you mean :-) I'm not too fond of this new genre option. I updated my gallery some, but for some images I really can't think of a genre they would fit in. And... what's "environment"? It's similar to "nature"? If I do a landscape, I environ it or nature it? Hm...

SevenOfEleven ( ) posted Thu, 27 February 2003 at 3:30 PM

Ornlu check out the topic "Lack of Imagination" in the art theory forum. I have a picture with a naked skeleton wearing rollerblades, is that part of the Same same old? Wait its not quite naked since it is wearing protective gear. Maybe they should explain the titles behind the genres. In painting, think that landscapes could have buildings in them. Nature was if you do a close up picture of plant(s). Used to use a 19k wireless modem to upload pictures here, had to cross fingers when uploading. Even though they said it was a 19k modem, I only got 800 bytes per second to 1k per second on good days.

pmoores ( ) posted Thu, 27 February 2003 at 4:20 PM

NO they need more poser categories: poser with sword and helmut poser with sword no helmut poser with no sword or helmut poser with helmut only etc etc

pakled ( ) posted Thu, 27 February 2003 at 4:31 PM

who's Helmut? and does he wear a helmet?..;) Yeah, the Poser folks are debating a NVIATWAS category..wonder how big that would get?..;) Yeah, thank heavens I got rid of most of my old gallery. What's tickling me to no end is that this is the 3rd time I've posted half of my pics, and still there's folks who think they're new..;) It does take a while to categorize..wonder if I should start adding up the 'hits' for an aggregate..;) hardly seems ethical..;)
NVIATWAS- Nkd Vickie in a temple with a sword..in case ya didn't know..;)

Ornlu ( ) posted Thu, 27 February 2003 at 4:53 PM

well, I agree that SOME poser images are out of the norm... But honestly I get tired of sifting through the torrents of poser Cliches.

SevenOfEleven ( ) posted Thu, 27 February 2003 at 5:33 PM

Did see someone post a temple in a naked vicki picture once in another gallery. Waiting for the anti trend pictures. Clothed vicki in a temple pictures or Clothed vicki in a temple with a naked sword picture.

ocddoug ( ) posted Thu, 27 February 2003 at 6:40 PM

Do we actually have to go back and add genres to our old images?? I'm on dial-up and have 940 images here, so I'm guessing that would take about a month. I don't mind selecting a genre for any new images I upload (although it's hard deciding what genre an image belongs in, I have trouble enough coming up with titles), but the entire backlog? Doug

EricofSD ( ) posted Thu, 27 February 2003 at 11:11 PM

Did they add a terrain/landscape genre yet? Seems that us Brycers could use one of those.

Zhann ( ) posted Thu, 27 February 2003 at 11:25 PM

News, they said all you have to do is select 'edit' pick the 'genre' and voila! where ever you go there you are...:p

News on the gallery genres comes fast and furious right now. (I assume) That you will not HAVE to edit your pics if you do not want to, nor is there a deadline, so if you want to take the next 6 months to assign genres to your pics, please feel free. Enviroments = Indoor Landscape, basically. Lol, even though the ability for the galleries to support genres have been there for a long time, we just never implemented it. But, we had enough requests for genres AND enough requests/complaints about the Poser gallery, that we thought it to be a good idea to do this. We were VERY close to just splitting up the Poser gallery...thought we'd give this a chance. AS

So the Purist vs Importer debate rages on elsewhere.

Doublecrash ( ) posted Fri, 28 February 2003 at 7:40 AM

Personal opinion (worth maybe 2 eurocents): I don't care at all if the work is "pure" or not. I admire artists here that tend to use "pure" Bryce (meaning no postwork) and others that heavily postwork their images. So, what's all the fuss about? If you're into "pure", write a comment and criticism and suggestion in the comment, saying for example "hey guy, your image I like yeah, but you're not using Bryce only". If you're into "postwork is go(o)d", do the same saying "Uhm, with a little post here and there would be incredibly striking!"... and we all will continue to enjoy the works and the comments of each other... :) Stefano

Doublecrash ( ) posted Fri, 28 February 2003 at 7:43 AM

I updated most of my gallery (and got rid of some early stuff). This is nice, I admit that maybe any novelty scares me, cuz I'm a traditionalist type of guy (kidding!), and today I'm way happier than yesterday about it. Also, I've read by tammymc that the images categorized into the genres that were merged later has been automatically moved into the new genres, so no problems. Stefano Again

bhubenig ( ) posted Fri, 28 February 2003 at 5:36 PM

As for finding the category in which to place your work. Choose the first one that comes to mind - it's usually the right one. It took me about 5 minutes to change my gallery over.

I'm tossing my two Canadian pennies in with Doublecrash. I enjoy a lot of work that has been "pure" Bryce (for monthly entries I left images as they were) and those that prefer poster work (I'm a member of the later).

Genre indicates the nature of the final product. Paintings are labeled surrealist, abstract etc - not the brand of brush or paint the artist used. We are all digital artists (painters, sculptors and illustrators).

SevenOfEleven ( ) posted Fri, 28 February 2003 at 6:34 PM

Purism goes beyond just doing post work, it also means not using any imported meshes made from other apps too. For Bryce it would be making everything from within Bryce. I am not a purist because I make my models in other apps and texture map them in Bryce. Don't really care how other folks make their pictures but the Purist vs Importers debate always seems to come up on the contests. Think that the genre stuff is good because pictures can get more views. The bad side is that people that have large galleries have to do a lot of work.

pauljs75 ( ) posted Sun, 02 March 2003 at 3:09 AM

Yeah... A lot of work... (Search by artist. Go to my own gallery. Find image not assigned genre. Select edit. Assign genre. Hit "done". Then have to search my own name again, since 'rosity hasn't figured out as of yet how to return me to my own gallery - it defaults to image category.)
I'm also suprised by how many genre's one person can cover. Some people can stick to one thing and be really good at it. Me, I'm too scatterbrained to stick to any one project and somehow have achieved a modest level of craftsmanship. Not to mention that I play with more than one type of category here: photo, WIP (same thing as modeling?), 2D drawing. Now if only they had some way to add multiple genres to an image. Seems that most of my work is geared toward humor/whatever (right now the bias usually going to the whatever part, since I can only select one genre.) Also it couldn't hurt if someone would provide a definition of the genres somewhere, so people would have a better understanding of where to put their works (Is this abstract, surreal, or weird?)
Now if they could get the genre searches to go beyond the "What's new" level... Or am I doing something wrong. Hmmm...

If they are were uploaded 30 days or more ago they will not show up in any of the "what's new" areas but will display in the other sort by areas.. such as most commented, most viewed. AgentSmith

One way you could do it is to go to your gallery and right-click on the picture you want to edit and "open new window". Edit your settings in the new window and upload. If you do it this way, you can keep your gallery in view. Can cut down on the "Search for your gallery" stuff

Zhann ( ) posted Sun, 02 March 2003 at 9:03 PM

duh! Why didn't I think of that...opening in a new window saves LOTS of time...thanks SevenofEleven!
