Subject: Croping Images question

kidd_ego ( ) posted Fri, 28 February 2003 at 11:37 PM · edited Sun, 08 March 2026 at 8:37 PM

Hello I have over 7000 images I need to crop 1/4 on all edges. and every image is a different size. Does anyone know away of setting an action or doing a batch croping of images? keep in mind not one image is the same size as the other. I am trying to avoid doing them all one at a time. Thanks in advance :-)

i tried a batch process to get rid of a percentage of images, not specific pixels, and it failed miserably. Cropped all images to a pixel size, not a percentage. Im at a loss personally.

Someones in for some beaucoup overtime.

Grimtwist ( ) posted Sat, 01 March 2003 at 4:48 AM

If they were the same size, it would work with an action but....

You can do it with Image Ready. Photoshop doesn't seem to let you do it in same way. Create the action, right click on the action and select Batch Options (to select where you want your cropped images saved) then right click again on the action and select Create Droplet (give droplet a filename). Drag your folder of images onto the droplet (an .exe file) and it will open Image Ready (if not already open) and batch process the whole folder.

  • Create a new Action
  • Select All
  • Select - Modify - Contract (enter amount in pixels)
(I assume by post meant 1/4 inch?)
  • Image - Crop
  • Stop Recording

It would save a bit of time no doubt.

Your welcome. Glad it helped. I use droplets all the time. I've never tried it on more then 400-500 images though but had no reason to believe that it wouldn't work with that many images. Like I said in another post, not enough people realize what Image Ready is capable of.

Well thanks a million I think i am going to look into image ready deeper. I am very impressed with the power it has and how much time it saves :-)

ficticious ( ) posted Sat, 01 March 2003 at 4:04 PM

how annoying that photoshop isn't capable of working an action properly, but image ready is.. wish i knew about that, thanx dreamer.

Grimtwist ( ) posted Sun, 02 March 2003 at 12:49 AM

and to think, most of us ingore Image Ready completely.

IR can handle "actions" far better when it comes to "custom actions" than PS. It all depends on what you want to do. Thanks for bringing this to mind Dreamer, as always, your response was most helpful.

I am wondering if ACDSee can do this? I know that it has batch conversions and file size tools, but I dont know about your cropping specific size on various size pics, but i would not b surprised if it does because it is pretty cool. I am not sure becaue I have only used it a few times, and havn't renistalled it yet since reinstalling windows other day. I got a shareware vers. on a cd, and I know it is on web as well. Good luck. I will let you know if i find out for sure.

O I just saw what dreamer said, so glad you got it taken care of. :-)

Mongo ( ) posted Mon, 03 March 2003 at 1:24 AM

I never even thought of that Dreamer. The hang up seems to be that you can contract a "select all" selection in IR, but not PS.

Thanks!
