I've noticed that some of the fractal pictures in the art gallery are framed and some aren't. Could anyone tell me what software is being used to put frames on a completed fractal picture? Thanks CP

Hi Cindy :) I would imagine that the software used to create frames varies from person to person! Some folks may be using PSP or photoshop or paint or heaven knows!

I think a lot of folks create the frame in the fractal program itself. I never do, I'm just too lazy I think. But I have seen plenty of amazing frames posted here that are entirely created within UF. Here is one tutorial about it that should be helpful: http://www.parkenet.org/jp/ufmatframe.html

When I do a frame for a fractal, I make it up within the fractal program - In my case, UF. There are several coloring algorithms available for UF that will create frames, or you can make your own from scratch by using the clipping transformations. The image linked to here is an example of a frame created from scratch. But for getting started, the tutorial Jock mentions above is excellent.

I use frames to separate created images from the background. Using PSP to make the images uploadable, is making a frame a piece of cake. Select all/shrink 15 pixels/invert(ctrl-shift-i)/effect/ 3d, and make a choice. ctrl-d will deselect and voila, a frame is created. Using paintspray in the selected area gives other possibilitys to play with. RS

since i suck at UltraFractal framing,(grin) i use photoshop, croping different layers and using different blend modes... usually some sort of desaturate or exclusion... looking back over these posts, though, i might have to give UF one more try
