So lets punish the folks that make their own models. I make my own models for my pictures. I don't think this is a good idea. Wasn't being able to import models a great feature of Bryce? Contest winners can specify "Pure Bryce" pictures for the next contest but don't punish people who make their own models.
I agree with seven ive downloaded wings and anim8or in an attempt to make my own models and i avoid downloading and using others works whenever possible these days. Not only is it more fun this way it avoids any possible copyright issues if you were ever wanting to sell prints or whatever of your own works.
Ok I didnt explain the extra point very well. The pure bryce point doesnt go towards the normal challenge voting. It's just tallied seperately at the end. The artist with the most pure bryce points would just get recognized with the other three winners as the "pure bryce" winner for the challenge. When you post your challenge entry you would state if it was pure bryce or not. lol Drac... not exactly what I had in mind. I think it should be a bit more. I think it should be no imported meshes AND no 2d picts AND no post. Any restrictions here wouldnt affect the normal challenge at all. It may be noone even enters a pure bryce scene for the challenge for a particular month. Seven and zanny... I hope the above explained it better. Everyone would still be in the running for 3,2 & 1 no matter if their work was pure bryce or not. Normal monthly Challenge. You wouldnt be entering two different challenges. Again, the pure bryce point doesnt go towards the normal voting. It's just a way to get four names up in lights. I guess it would even be possible for someone to get in the top three AND win the bryce only award too. For example, lets say the the above example vote turned out to be the winners, with vasquez getting the most pure bryce points, AgentSmith and clay would announce the four winners. Did that make any more sense? Blue
Well the point being this is a Bryce forum, a Bryce challenge, and the best Bryce community around. I was just throwing the idea out because it would let us revel in the Bryceness of it all... not to mention a way to get to vote for four people instead of three! To me it doesnt matter one way or another.
Emberghost: The rules and topic for each monthly challenge appears in a link in the Bryce Forum header. The challenge for March will be determined by the winner of the Feb challenge (but maybe you knew that).
This is not my "second childhood". I'm not finished with the first one yet.

Importing objects from other programs is a Bryce feature and rightfully so. Bryce is a terrain generator and a poor and cumbersome modeling program for anything else. If it were as easy to model objects in Bryce as say in, 3D Studio Max, Rhino, Amapi, Lightwave or any of the other 3D packages, there would be no need to use a 3rd party modeling program now would there? It takes a considerable amount of skill, time and talent to be able to model your own objects and my hat goes off to those that can and do. All image and 3D software programs are artistic tools and placed at our disposal to use in any combination we desire. Let's not divide the community using the "purest" argument. It's like saying "only the use of water colors permitted no oils, pencils or charcoal".

I had an idea that may or may not be good, but I thought I'd throw it out to everyone to see what ya thought. What would happen if we added a "bryce only" category to each month's challenge, along with the normal 123 point system already in place. Each artist could decide whether he/she wanted to make the render a pure bryce or not. When it came vote time, the only difference would be an extra point awarded to a bryce only render. As an example a vote might look like... 3 - Catlin_mc 2 - ttops 1 - AgentSmith 1 - vasquez (pure bryce) The winner of the normal voting would still get to pick the next month's topic along with any restrictions and/or twists just as normal. Do you all think that would be too confusing? Just create more work for AgentSmith? (he says he has too much spare time) lol
