Subject: Power Pack Ex Now Available

Lost Horizon Software (www.losthorizonsoftware.com) is proud to announce the availability of the Power Pack Ex. It is a collection of 5 plug-ins that provide Carrara with some much needed extra functionality. It is priced at $29.95. Any purchaser of the original Power Pack can download and use PPEx for free. Here's a brief description of the plug-ins - more information, the docs, and some renderings are available on our web page. Tracer Allows 2d images to be loaded and traced over Gradient Shader Add powerful coloring to procedural shaders, similar to POV-Ray's gradient capabilities Blurry Reflections Create realistic blurred reflections Fresnel Effects Simulate the reflection and transparency properties of real glass. Particle Sprites Creates more believable particle effects by forcing them to face the camera at all times and allowing proper texture mapping. Hi folks,

This is cool stuff, with Brian's new Gradient Shader, I took the Dead Moon from the Shader Ops resource page and in just a couple of minutes turned it into a planet!

Check it out.

WOW!!! When I originally purchased the Power Pack I thought that I had kinda wasted money as they included the Power Pack in Carrara. Now I see a whole host of new stuff that I can add to it to make C more interesting!!! Thanks Brian! Ken dork.gif

Great news! I can't wait to try Tracer. It does work in the vertex modeler, doesn't it? Keith

bretford ( ) posted Fri, 21 February 2003 at 10:14 AM

It actually works in all the modeller because it simply floats above the Carrara interface. This means it doesn't zoom and pan with a modeller view, but it's still extrememly useful (IMHO) Brian

I'm also very interested in the Tracer... is it anything at all like "PhotoModeler?" I realize PhotoModeler is a very detailed piece of software, but to be able to create models from traced photographs would be great. Brian, do you have any examples you can show us... IE: a model you have created and the photo you used to create it? Thanks. Chuck

Looks great. The Tracer option would be very useful. As I understand it it is a floating image on top of the Carrara interface. Does this mean the user can adjust the transparency of the image? Quartz in Jaguar (Mac OS 10.2) should allow for that. Konfabulator.com has a very cool XML/javascript program that would allow to create "Widgets" for this sort of thing if you can get it to run on top of the Carrara UI.

This looks superb. I too will purchase as soon as the Mac version ships! Regards, Paul
