Nicholas86 ( ) posted Wed, 05 March 2003 at 11:14 AM

NO I mean I thought I've seen that before, I know its not a photograph. hmmm. Well a nice image. Brian

falconperigot ( ) posted Wed, 05 March 2003 at 11:19 AM

Apologies, I meant that I think the picture is excellent, not that it is a photo.

AzChip ( ) posted Wed, 05 March 2003 at 11:45 AM

It's really amazing. Excellent detail, great composition, very real feeling with a painterly quality about it. Most impressive work; it's a great demonstration of some of the capabilities of Carrara! Great work!

Fantastique! Vehicule a grand vitesse!

mdesmarais ( ) posted Wed, 05 March 2003 at 3:49 PM

I believe it has been posted here as a work in progress. . . excellent finish! The only thing that catches my eye is the waviness of the beams in the tudor-style building in the background- that short and that thick would be unlikely to deform like that. How long did the render take? Markd

litst ( ) posted Wed, 05 March 2003 at 5:09 PM

Yeah ... how long did the render take ?... >;)

Freid ( ) posted Wed, 05 March 2003 at 11:16 PM

thanks guys :) it took 9 days at 1280x768 with GI (and low settings) to render.there are almost 3000, objects in the scene. The file : 324mb (with a bit of textures in it) Freid

litst ( ) posted Thu, 06 March 2003 at 8:12 AM

Freid, have you used a lot of soft shadows ? With high resolutions ? They eat a lot of ressources, especially when coupled with GI .

Freid, have you used a lot of soft shadows ? With high resolutions ? They eat a lot of ressources, especially when coupled with GI . Nope just a skylight and 2 small light whithout shadow to tweak with the gi-transparency-mode-bug. You, know, the one that you told me a bit about ;o) I think the 'dodoche' file is slow to render, because it has a LOT of polygones that's it ! (i dont have the file here at work, so i cant tell you more about it. i'll look if you want) Freid

tkane18 ( ) posted Thu, 06 March 2003 at 9:34 AM

9 days! Well worth the wait. What are the specs on your system that you rendered on?

Freid ( ) posted Thu, 06 March 2003 at 10:30 AM

athlon 1go4, 400mb ram, crappy disk. ;o)

litst ( ) posted Thu, 06 March 2003 at 11:44 AM

the GI-transparency-mode-bug has been fixed in the 2.1 patch if i remember well :)

Quite Exquisite! Great Job! Question: With 3000 objects and a 324mb file, how does it perform when you are moving objects, working in the program, etc.. ? -Paul

Quite Exquisite! Great Job! Question: With 3000 objects and a 324mb file, how does it perform when you are moving objects, working in the program, etc.. ? -Paul Thanx It works :) its sometimes realllllly slow with my machine, (maybe 15mn to load or save !!) but it works (fortunately, i got several machines). I keep da preview in boxmode, and i sort all the objects in a few groups which i can hide/unhide almost quickly. I must say that file is huge, and i think i can clean it a bit, but hey, i love messy stuffs ;) Freid
