Hey Folks what am I doing wrong? I am making an animation and when I do calculations for the hair and in the room help it says to use collisions to stop the hair from interescting with pther things in the scene...well you see the results, it is like the hair is also colliding with itself...or am I just doing someothing wrong.

That's because the hair IS colliding with itself (at least, that's what I've allways assumed)... You're not at fault, this is a long standing bug in P5. Here's the two main threads I've seen on this:

and here:

Good Luck!

thats both the same link but I noticed something that I didn't do ( I didn't turn on collisons...errr ahem scuse me LOL) I will also crank up the gravity a tonne and see what happens.

There's another possible factor - the helmet so close on the scalp may be forcing many more deformations and collisions than normal. Have you considered re-mapping the hair "field" (can't think of another term just now), so it's just a fringe around where the helmet doesn't cover? It may not be part of the problem at all, but it seems like P5'd have to make a ton of unnecessary calculations for hair that doesn't even show. Hope this was relevant, or even helpful...

oh there is no hair under the helmet LOL he is as bald as a baby's bottom on top, I have been trying this with the helmet off as well with the same resuls

Odeathoflife, you've provided some excellent freebies, thankyou... I've some thoughts that might help. Try removing the head from the objects to collide with, I know it seems odd but try it. Next, remove some of the hair closest to the helmet so the the hair that needs to move doesn't touch it at all, remove the helmet from the list of objects to collide with. Next, make a new row of hair around the helmet, much shorter and pulled down hard, don't animate this row but allow it to show through, it'll probably take a little while to get right. Next shorten the longer hair that hangs down below the helmet and pull this back. Finally, remember that an animation is not a still and relies much more on artifice to achieve realism but you can get away with much more!

Ohhh, SAXON, that is the most beautiful usage of the Hair that I have seen! Wonderful animation and thanx for the tip of removing the Head as a collision Item - that may have just fixed one of my problems!

GraphicFoxx ( ) posted Wed, 12 March 2003 at 11:10 AM

How can you remove the head as a collision item? P5 hair doesn't have 'collide with' like the cloth room does.

cruzan ( ) posted Wed, 12 March 2003 at 12:13 PM

it does have do collisions (to right of dynamic controls) am currently awaiting Calculate dynamics to finish to see if head will be listed somewhere......

odeathoflife ( ) posted Wed, 12 March 2003 at 1:02 PM

collisions are in the properties of the object FYI

Sorry, I should have made that clearer! ODOL is absolutely right. You need to view the original thread to see how it's done. Thanks for the kind words cruzan.
