Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 26 2:05 pm)
Thanks Sharen. This means I have to learn UVmapper, not Poser. Isn't there a way to do it directly in Poser? I don't really understand how you do that in UVmapper. Sometimes I have props they are a whole group and Select-->By Group is greyed in UVmapper. If I want to separate the pieces, how can I do that, as I only can select by material? Guitta
Guitta, if you can select by material, then select the material(s) you want to include in one group then go to Tools/Assign to/Group. Do this with all the materials/groups you want to set up and don't forget to save your object. Steve Cox has set up a forum for UVMapper at his website - it should be very helpful for learning more about this great program. :) Sue
You can use Poser's Group Tool to "ungroup" props, also. Just select the object that you want to ungroup. Open the Group Tool. Click the "Spawn Props" button. Poser will create a new and separate object for each one of the groups in the original object. Simple, huh? cheers, dr geep ;=]

Just have tried to do it geep. I've loaded a prop composed from several grouped objects. Then opened the Grouping tool. But every thing is greyed out, except "NEW GROUP". Anyhow, I have tried to click this only button, gave it a name and then clicked SPAWN PROPS. Nothing happend:-(. Did I misunderstand something? Thanks for helping more. Guitta
Thanks Willy, but this doesn't work either. Probably I'm dumb:-). I have done what you said. I have tried with ASSIGN MATERIAL and also with INCLUDE MATERIAL before clicking Spawn Props. None worked. You say "This will make a prop of this selected parts." Which parts? As I only have 1 grouped object and cannot access the different components??? Guitta
Yessss! That will do it, Guitta! I forgot to meniton the thing with the selection from the materials list. See, it's easy when you consider you can select materials, other groups or even pick facets by hand. Oh, by the way - there seems to be a trick in hand-picking facets: BEFORE you select the gropuing tool you should select a display style for the object. When you select WIRE-frame style (in the main pose room window) you can pick "through" the frame, i.e. you get the facet you actually pick AND the one on the backside! When you select "HIDDEN"-style you can only pick the facets on the front side! This difference isn't pointed out very much in the manual. That explains why there is so much fuzz about this darned group tool which just does what it wants - and not what I want! Ah, just select the correct display style... Willy

Now I'm blushing, Dr. Geep! I didn't want to put the blame on you, because most of the more sophisticated tricks I know about Poser I've learned from you. The reason can easily be seen from your "One Page Tut" above - it's simple and exhaustive - and fun to read! As an avid collector of you formidable tutorials, Yours truly Willy PS: I'm in all of your classes from the beginning. But, being the most educated pupil I am, I keep silence 'til the end. (Hrm,umpf)

Thanks to geep, I learned here how to group props. But how can I ungroup existing props or people or cloth? If ever this is possible. Thanks for explaining in detail:-) Guitta
