Thanx, I get some more informations too but not allowed to talk about details. All I can say: They had great ideas for the next version. And: The information from Conan is true. :-( You can be sure that some from the former Corel Bryce Team are on renderosity and sure some of the Beta guys too. Thomas

I have a question! "Why have they stopped the development of a highly popular application, that has the potential to be one of the very best, and obviously have so many users? Only a few new features would be required to place it amongst the best 3D applications available. And Bryce also has an advantage, its easier to learn!" Too long...? :)

There is a short answer for that: Development costs and maybe they sold not enough from Bryce 5. Problem is that many said: Bryce 5 update? Why? Not enough new for me, I wait until 6. So the "numbercrunchers" think: The market for Bryce is not big enough to spend that much money for a new version actually. But the market IS big enough. Especially with all the planned new features. So we have to find a way to show that. I'm sure that many switched to Vue will be back if Bryce Pro is one day available...one day in NEAR future. But if they wait too long... Thomas

A list is good, but a lot of letters and emails is better because it gives them the feeling that there are so many people concerned. If we make a huge list and send them one letter, it will still be just one letter in the mailbox. Not a pain in the butt to throw away.

HA HA HA!!! At least they're not making pictures like that of OUR management! (Yet.) Now Microsoft has dumped their Corel stock at a 90% loss. Ouch! Corel will be de-listed from the NASDAQ before too long, as they've been trading at under a dollar for some time now... -Mo Monkey Business PS- The numberchrunchers love only money. We went through that at MetaCreations.

So Doc has anything thats been said here about building a fund excetera made any sense. Is there any way for Bryce users, (and lovers), to help get Bryce back into sensible hands?? Cat

Corel need to know: More money lost with each month waiting. Many Brycelovers out there want a new version. If they not want to give it complete out of hands why not working together with others like CL does it these days? My wish: Changing the classic Brycearchitecture into a pluginsystem. So you can change near anything. Have different tracers, different toolsets and so on. So not only Corel can create new features for Bryce. Thomas

Thomas, MojoWorld has an open architecture, for exactly that reason. And Bryce 6, without any driving vision or new technology behind it, is likely to be incremental at best. (We, of course, can really open it up and make it over!) Cat, I think the amount of money needed--$0.5M to $1M--isn't going to be raised informally. Not for a piece of software that people only paid about $200 for, anyway! But we're working on raising the $$. "Wish us luck." -Mo

The thing that bothers me Doc is would Bryce retain it's present user interface or would it become like every other 3D app out there? Cat

Doc Mojo ( ) posted Thu, 13 March 2003 at 5:38 PM

My view of Bryce is "great interface on top of a flawed engine." So, if we were to land it, we'd keep the UI pretty much intact, and hope our extensions of it didn't mess with the user experience. "Don't mess with success," I figure. We'd keep MojoWorld separate, probably, with it's own more-at-professional UI. -Mo

There are really very few things that Bryce needs improving on. If you've ever seen the wish lists that pop up here from time to time they usually contain the same kind of things. There's the all time fav of being able to export the objects made, and the all important faster render engine, which is one of the thing that Mojoworld could provide with ease. Then there's the fanatics, they know who they are :), who would like true radiosity and global illumination, to mention just a few. But in all there are not many things that would make the majority very happy. Cat

Doc, I suspect you may be right about the raising money issue, but please don't discount the help offered. When I pledged $250, that was to start and if we do get serious I can increase that amount. I WANT to help and if there are more like me willing, we may make it just a shade easier. If that is the case then to me it IS worth it! Richard

Pass no temptation lightly by, for one never knows when it may pass again!

Doc Mojo ( ) posted Thu, 13 March 2003 at 9:39 PM

Richard, I certainly hope you succeed! Just imagine if Bryce could do all it does now, and have MojoWorld's textures, terrains, planets and pixel-level geometry--that would ROCK! Let's make it happen!!! -Mo

From what I've gleaned from my friend it would appear that since times are tough for Corel there is a good chance they would sell Bryce to put something back in the coffers, and I think this would be more likely since at present they don't appear to have any future plans for Bryce. The patch for Bryce 5 was the last work to be done on the program and since many of the developers were laid off last summer I don't think any more work was completed for a Bryce 6. Also there didn't appear to be any developers brought in from outside the company to continue work on Bryce, this would have cost a fortune to do anyway and I don't think Corel have the finances for that at the moment. From everything my mate has told me it would appear that the developers of Bryce were/are as dedicated to the program as we are, but because times are very hard economically for Corel they had to let the developers go and as Bryce is not included in Corel's future plans, no more work is being done on it. Folk who have an interest in aquiring Bryce basically have a similar problem as Corel itself, the venture capital isn't there, and there's another point, many people would like to own Bryce the name but not Bryce the program and we should all be careful about who we choose to trust with the use of our money to develop Bryce. One thing I was warned about was that putting money into buying Bryce would have to be done as an investment program with all the contracts etc. that accompany such an action, then we would have the assured knowledge of what we would be getting in return otherwise we could end up throwing good money after bad and not get the program we want in return. This brings me back to a point I made earlier and that is that we would need someone trustworthy to organise this and it would be asking a lot of someone to do this. I hope this has answered some of peoples questions and if there is anything else anyone would like to know either write here or IM me. I'll also put this in a new thread to keep everyone informed. Cheers Cat
