See neftis's Printemps hair:-)Y'know, it looks more real than any other braids that I've seen, but it still looks like it was (beautifully) assembled from a number of sort of 'v' shaped modules, rather than by 3 strand braiding. I don't own it because of that. And also because a friend has it and she's always looking for true braided hair, too....
Aye, I've never really tried to model anything like natural braids. Most modelers create braids from deform spherical objects or cylinders I would guess. Doing it in the same fashion as true braids would be a difficult chore but not impossible. I'm guessing that the poly count would be higher as well.
Valandar, what proggy are you using. I use rhino. I was thinking that perhaps I could do something similar using multiple strands per hair segment. I don't have access to my machine right now, but will give it a try later. I was thinking perhaps "piping" a number of splines which are already in the proper shape and order. ...and piping each with slightly different diameters... oh, and without end caps :). By usings different diameters, I hope to cause some of the strands to intersect slightly which would close some of the gaps (hopefully all). It would be most similar to how DW creates his hair models. I've never done hair before either, but it will be a nice little challenge. I was playing around doing organics the other day and came up with a nice grass model which I placed in the FREE stuff section. Did a nice little ornamental tree too :)
LOL....Mine too---->(My problem is in making and transmapping the "skullcap" and "tuft" at the ends). I tried a hair model once and it came out like Vicki was balding! LOL! Just wisps of hair here and there..it was quite laughable heheh. The mesh itself was pretty full and thick, so I guess it was my transmapping that sucked to hell. :) I didn't use a skull cap either and that was another part of the problem, I guess.

I cannot find any modeled braids that are composed of 3 or more strands, like real braided hair, for example. I'm not a modeler, so I have no way of knowing whether such a thing is a modeler's nightmare, but it sure would be nice to have a braid that looked like a real braid for close-ups. Transmapped properly, it would be beautiful for all sorts of hairstyles......Anyone interested? :)
