Subject: First Attempt at Morphing with Magnets - V3 teen face

So, I finally decided to try working with those pesky magnets without giving up, and here's the result! I was going for a young character, somewhere between Mil Kids and standard Vicki. While I didn't use any photographs for reference, somehow I ended up with a character that reminds me of Dawn from Buffy the Vampire Slayer... I'm thinking I'll find some photos of the actress (Michelle Trachtenberg?) online, and rework the morph to a better likeness. If anyone's interested, I'd be happy to put the face morph in freestuff... along with the light brown texture for Yamato's Moko hair (included in Tenten package) used above.

I do have a question or two for some of the more experienced morphers here. The first is the jagged line on the right side of her neck in the image... I can't seem to get the seam from the neck to meet the shoulders, though both have magnets attached. They both have the same scale settings, but maybe I've overlooked something? Any tips for keeping the character intact?

Second question is a bit more important... I've never exported a morph from Poser before LOL. The part I'm confused about is the fact that this character uses magnets as well as DAZ morphs, and I know there's a big copyright issue with redistributing those. Is there any way for me to get the morph in a pose file? Will I have to add the magnets as a seperate prop?

Oops, I ended up with more than a couple questions... I'm having fun with this, and I'd hate to stop now. :) I'd appreciate any comments or suggestions!

-Molly

I think it would be well appreciated in freestuff! I can't explain the jagged line, does the zone come in contact with the neck there and is the neck being affected?

DAZ does not want anyone using their morphs without paying for them, so unless you dial all channels to zero before spawning a head morph, you will be going against their wishes. BUT, since you are working with magnets...You could parent them, then save as a "smart" prop somewhat like Voluptuous Vicky's breast and clothing magnets. Your CR2 will keep the channel settings, but I don't know how the sliders for the mags will work out. Easiest would probably be to save the PZ3 file without the hair, since many won't have the .obj for it, Poser will lock up if it can't find something.

I'm sure someone else will have some ideas for you.

I'm past my bedtime, so I may not make any sense if I try to explain further.

Mark

Wow! That's really nice. It would be great if you put it in FreeStuff. While I would not call myself an experienced morpher, I'll take an early crack at your questions, as I'm sure you'll get better, more detailed answers from the experts. The combo of DAZ morphs wih the custom morph is a bit tricky, but I would think it possible to either create a MOR file that would accomplish this. Failing that, you could distribute the custom morph and a .fc2 file to set the DAZ morphs, thus requiring the user's ownership of the necessary morphs. Exporting the custom morph should be fairly easy. After making sure you've saved the DAZ morph settings safely elsewhere, you can zero the dial settings on the head, leaving only the effects of the magnet(s). You could then, for safety, spawn a morph target, and save the figure as a new character, which would allow you to get rid of the magnet(s). When you have the figure with the head morphed using your newly spawned morph target (and the dial set to 1), you can go to the file menu to export as an .obj file. Select exporting a single frame. The hierarchy selection box should appear, with all boxes checked. Deselecting UNIVERSE should uncheck everything. Then select the head and hit "OK." Then a dialog box asks for the name of the file. Name your morph target, then click "save." If pictures would help explain what I've written, the general procedure can be found at the end of ch. 2 in the poser 4 manual, which is also the help file accessable through P4. As for the neck/shoulder problem, it may be that the zones for both magnets overlap in that area, causing an additive effect. Make your zones visible (select a zone, then change its properties to visible) to check. If so, you may be able to scale each on the x, y, or z axis to prevent overlap. Hope that's at least somewhat helpful;-)

Thanks all for the helpful suggestions. :) I'm definitely going for a young natural beauty, trying to stay away from the stereotypical small pointy noses and huge pouty lips. Glad to see others like it! I'll keep working on it.

I really like it allot Molly . I would use it if you put it in free stuff.

If you want to distribute V3 morph settings without legal problems, use the Injection Pose Builder utility from DAZ ($1.99 for Platinum members). Using that, you can make a Pose file that automatically injects the necessary morphs to a blank V3 cr2. Means that the user can apply your morph settings (including full body morphs) with a mouseclick, but they need to own the appropriate morph packs to do it. You are not distributing the actual morphs, just the script to inject them, so you are legally OK. I suppose you have to distribute your own morph as a separate file, but your use of DAZ morphs can be included in the Pose file. Great character, BTW, nice work :-)

Save as a FACE so you get just the DAZ face morph settings. Then zero all of them, leaving only your magnets active. It ight look kind of odd, but don't worry about that. The important thing is how it works together with the face file. With the head highlighted, export as an obj with only the export as a morph target box filled. The resulting obj has the combined effect of all your active magnets blended together. Then package the face pose with its rsr or png along with the head obj and voila! Very nice face by the way. I'd certainly welcome it! :] Fish

You did a beautiful job! She looks so real---I'd love to have that face for all kinds of images :)

I second everyone's "Luvverly job - can't wait to see it in freebies!" comments :)

Same here....and I'd like to know what skin texture that is, it's beautiful!

Fashionably_Late ( ) posted Wed, 19 March 2003 at 7:42 PM

Thanks again all, I didn't expect such a rave review! The skin texture is the Universal HiRes V3 maps from DAZ, and the makeup is "Bare" from Anton's Starlet maps. The global lighting really does make these textures look gorgeous. :) I'm working on getting the morphs exported, and hopefully I'll have it in freestuff soon! -Molly
