How about a load of us make a model or two and put it in the store at 100% profit to renderosity, this way we can help out and not worry about contributions, heck if you really want to give the site some cash you can buy 3 of the models :o) knowing that all the profit is going to the site.anyway you have my 150% support and if its a go Rena and I will will work our hardest to produce a kick ass piece that everyone will want ........come on I'm hyped up and raring to go what do you all say........Steve

I've no experience in model making. But I think it's a great idea. Since I can't make, I'd buy. GG

Traveler ( ) posted Sat, 20 May 2000 at 7:43 AM

I would be in on this too. Woulden't be that hard to set up either. -Trav

picnic ( ) posted Sat, 20 May 2000 at 7:58 AM

What a great idea. I can't model at all and lack anything else worthy of adding but I'll buy yours--how's that?? G Maybe you only have models in mind--I KNOW I'd buy models--but there are some great texture makers around here too and some folks really aren't very good at creating textures or don't have time. Soooooooooooooooooooo--I COULD work on 'the best I could do' texture for several of Vicky's clothes--don't know if anyone would want them, but I think this is a great idea. I have no interest in ever trying to sell any of my graphics work but would do my darndest to create something decent to help support this site. (Creating and selling 2D textile art is what I do as 'real' work-- so computer graphics is strictly a late night hobby, but for this 'cause', I'll do my best). Diane B

it is a great idea..... and i would like to see it done... to help with the cost around here... and several other already mentioned things... now how do those of us without a credit card to buy with... and not yet having the ability to create new props or clothes yet... but have the will to help.. how do we help.. been thinking on that long and hard... and am coming up very empty on ideas.. most of us in that situation i believe..are like me and do want to help... either way this idea.. is great.. and WILL help... so let's do it...and i'll see if i can get someone to let me use their card for the cash... on this end.. and satisfy all concerns

Mazilla ( ) posted Sat, 20 May 2000 at 8:58 AM

Count me in, great idea :-)

steveshanks ( ) posted Sat, 20 May 2000 at 11:55 AM

hey Trav I'll buy yours :o) Diane you could make loads of textures for the stuff and put it in freestuff to boost the sales ;o).....I'm getting exited :o)...Steve

steveshanks ( ) posted Sat, 20 May 2000 at 12:04 PM

of course it all depends on how Jack and Ed feels about this and I stand by which ever desicion they make .......Steve

wyrwulf ( ) posted Sat, 20 May 2000 at 12:04 PM

X-perimentalman, can you get a Visa or MasterCard debit card on your checking account? They work just like a credit card, except they take the money out of your checking account. I have one and use it all the time.

robert.sharkey ( ) posted Sat, 20 May 2000 at 2:15 PM

Hurraa, i feel really good to read all your messages. I'm working on the following peaces since Friday: - Female Hair of New-Wave Era - 50's Men Hair - Beards and Mustaches as Props controlled with Morphs Everything for a 100%-payback to renderosity. I sugest a sales-price of 2 Dollars. What do you mean. SHARKEY

steveshanks ( ) posted Sat, 20 May 2000 at 2:25 PM

hell no Robert sell em for 20 its for a good cause :o), I'm keen on the hair and beards for the man!.......Steve

KateTheShrew ( ) posted Sat, 20 May 2000 at 3:04 PM

How about environments in a .3ds or .obj format? Would there be much of a demand for that? Kate

steveshanks ( ) posted Sat, 20 May 2000 at 3:09 PM

well i guess its up to Jack or whoever takes charge but it sounds like a great idea to me Kate.........Steve

DTHUREGRIF ( ) posted Sat, 20 May 2000 at 4:35 PM

I can't model worth a damn, but I'd be happy to make textures to put up. Or characters or morphs. I'm not as good as Traveler (or nearly as quick) but I'm not bad with those magnets. :-) Anyone want to buy my Jack and Ed characters? Just kidding, guys!!! ;-) Diane BTW, for those of you without credit cards, if you have a checking ccount, most banks offer a check card that works like a credit card but draws from your checking account. That would solve your problem.

X-perimentalman ( ) posted Sat, 20 May 2000 at 6:56 PM

would be a good idea..lol.. one word though... Canada... our banks offer diddly sh*t... they believe your money is THEIR money.. but i will figure something out... because this IS a great idea...

Stormrage ( ) posted Sat, 20 May 2000 at 8:14 PM

I am still working on the Poser home.. I can model a couple of extra rooms for this.. Almost done with a few anyway so it's not that hard.. Storm

edarsenal ( ) posted Mon, 22 May 2000 at 12:15 AM

This is a FANTASTIC idea and partially considered in an earlier thread. we will set up a section in the OnLine Store specifically for donated products which sales will go fully to aid in the continued running of Renderosity. once you have your products please contact either Bast or DTHUREGRIF regarding uploading them onto the storefront. i am in FULL agreement with this one. Let's put this one into action! ed

I'm in. Can we have some kind of request line or sign up sheet for people volunteering for a particular object? And maybe a request list.

Jim Burton ( ) posted Mon, 22 May 2000 at 10:11 AM

Steve- I think it is a poor idea, what is really needed is to make the store better, and let Renderosity make more money through more sales. What I think needs to be done on the store: 1. Distance it from the feeling it is another page of Free Stuff, and people are paying for what they would otherwise get for free. 2. As part of above, go to an format centered on the artist, not centered on the items, to get a family of items feel. While I don't think a sale counter is a good idea, have some way for people to tell if the item is from a new artist or from an established one. 3. Have the setup allow more details on each item, so people could see what they were getting. 4. Fix the credit card problems people are having, if it involves less security work out a procedure so the artists don't get paid for that item (in onther words, let the risk be shared) untill after the credit cards clear or whatever. 5. Don't go into secure mode until the sale is actually made, as I bet you are scareing people away. I've never seen a website that does this the way Renderosity does.

Jim. these and countless other improvements are in the works. as stated before while discussing with the well spoken PJF we had set in plan to merge with BBay and bring it onto Renderosity. Then bill suffered a multitude of technical troubles as well as personal strife. so instead of the original plan to build a very professional, state of the art, all the desired accessories we and the artists that would sell their work there could want, we decided to move quickly, throw it up and build from there as time proceeded so that the artists would still have a place for the products that BBay supplied. we are a VERY small group of VERY overworked and tired people doing 10 to 17 hour days seven days a week for no pay. this site high traffic includes a 5,000,000 page request a month. we need help. in every way imaginable. that is why we opened the community idea forum. for people to offer what help they can. not shoot that help down and then throw more work at us. Work, that is already on our list of things we shall do. if you have no wish to help, no desire to aid. may i suggest you refrain from visiting Community Ideas. thank you jim. good day.

edarsenal ( ) posted Mon, 22 May 2000 at 1:30 PM

tell ya what dave, i'll start a thread, for everyone to say what they'll be contributing. you all can use it to pass information. perhaps you may wish to exchange PM's and send one another e-mails outside the forum as well or select someone who will be the central hub for all of this. steve would you be interested in being that hub?

steveshanks ( ) posted Mon, 22 May 2000 at 1:52 PM

Sure Ed might be a good idea if we do then we could make something in a set or such like...that set bit just came off the top of my head LOL.........Steve

edarsenal ( ) posted Mon, 22 May 2000 at 2:07 PM

i've also thought about the set thing and STORM, crescent and a few others suggested it on a previous thread that STORM started, i believe?? but having individual as well as group softgoods would be great!!

Jim Burton ( ) posted Mon, 22 May 2000 at 2:34 PM

edarsenal- Oh, if you don't think those were positive suggestions I suggest you re-read them. I don't like your attitude in the above post at all, in fact, get off your holier-than-thou high horse!

edarsenal ( ) posted Mon, 22 May 2000 at 4:32 PM

sorry to say, jim, but i don't have the time or desire to play petty ego games with you. i have, in the past, and will now state those ideas are not only good, but ones we already felt were needed. sorry you misread my post. i am involved in a million things at once, if you took the above short post, one i have already posted on countless threads, offensive, i apologize. Thank you jim. thank you for time you spend posting those ideas. thank you. did YOU not only read but PAY attention to my former post?? thank you jim for your concerns, i apoligize for any misunderstanding. please excuse me while i focus on working out solutions. take care jim. good day. is this more to your convience, jim? me catering to your ego instead of say.... oh, i don't know, setting those ideas in motion? tell ya what. ya got a discrepency. a beef. e-mail me. this is not the place for such things. edarsenal@aol.com

I also wish to thank all in advance for your efforts to support the forum and it's overhead. Diane and I will work closely with each contributor to ensure that your work is the most desirable and salable it can be made to be. I am willing to give any help to any of you that my technical skills cover in working on your donation projects. For a very short idea of our current submission process (though Diane and I are working to get a more carefully detailed submission process posted soon): 1) Send Diane and myself both a simple and not too large rendering from 3 or 4 angles of the proposed piece by email to hbg@kreative.net and DTHUREGRIF@aol.com. This begins the submission process. 2) We will within 24 hours confirm that we have received your proposal and renders, and within 72 hours attempt to send back some response, suggestions or even just ask you to go to the next step, which is sending us the files for testing. 3) At this stage we arrange for you to send us the actual files, even if they are in a stage where you may need to make some suggested modifications, so we can begin doing some testing on both our machines for basic usability, since we wish all items in the store to be of only the highest standards of quality for our purchasers. 4) Once the model or contributed project is in a satisfactory condition, you will be contacted by Jack and Ed to work out any details needing still to be worked out, and we will begin moving to getting your product on display in the store :) Here to help in any way I can!
