Subject: Directory Structure - File Organization

Here is a question that has probably been ask a million times, so here is one million and one. :^) I am installing some items I have downloaded and I want to move them around so they make sense, to me. To do this I am uninstalling the files into a dumby directory and then moving them into the downloads section of the default file structure. With the exception of files that go into the geometries directory and textures, only ecause those directories were not created on the install. What I would like to know is can I customize those directories, so I can group items together by catagory. I know I can in the downloadsRuntime directories, but wht about in the RuntimeGeometries or Runtimetextures directories. For example: I have the following folder in my directory structure RuntimeGeometriesAdR & RuntimeGeometriesDudley both contain the information for automobiles. I would like to condense them into a folder called autos. Can I do this without screwing something up?

Yes and no. You can pretty much move them into whatever named folders you choose but a cr2 or pp2 file will more than likely be looking for the geometries in specific folders. If you move your things around you'll have to edit the cr2/pp2/whatever to reference your new folder. Personally, I find it easier to leave the Geometries folders alone and do any reorganization in the Figures, Pose, Hair, Hands, Faces etc folders.

That's what I thought. Thanks

If you want the best way to get things organized, get PBooost for $20 in the Marketplace. You still have some restrictions concerning some files, but your job will be so much easier.

When I extract some of these files, I get just some jpg file. Where do these go?

SamTherapy ( ) posted Sun, 23 March 2003 at 5:41 PM

JPG files go in RuntimeTextures, unless they extract to a specific folder, such as RuntimeTexturesSamTherapys for example.

Ok, that is what I thought. Where do I se them at in Poser?

Renegade572 ( ) posted Sun, 23 March 2003 at 5:51 PM

Let me rephrase that, all they are are jpg files, not associated to any particular character. Where do I see them at in Poser?

Beats me. :) It would generally be obvious if they're character textures, so I can only guess they're textures for tiling or backdrops.

:O) Ok, Thx

Jpgs that are included in zips but do not seem to be associated in any particular way, i.e. not put in a 'textures' subdir or similar, are most often 1 of 2 things: Texture templates or renders/thumbs of the zip contents. Put them anywhere it suits you :o)
