Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 25 9:50 pm)
This seems like a worthy project, and I wish I had time to contribute. I do think that a lot of folks here are going to take exception to the statement that the best we see from it on a daily basis is 3D porn, although I *think I suss what you are trying to convey by that statement. Best of luck in this :-)
naw, the best we see from it is stuff that's not porn at all, but the vast majority of what people do with poser is naked women and s&m scenes. and there's a lot of talent even in those scenes, but there's a lot more possibility with poser than bedroom scenes. some of the stuff i see done with poser transcends a lot of the great artists of our age, imo. that's why i'm surprised that so little substance comes from the users of this program. it seems like 7 out of the 10 poser sites i go to are erotica, and not even done all that well. anyhow, that's a discussion for a different thread. i hope you'll find some time to work on the project, even if it's in a "consultant" position!
there are a lot of bugs in the program from what i've heard, but i think that if we use it for the character aspect and maybe some texturing, we'll easily be able to make up for the bugs with other apps like lightwave (for example). my version of lightwave is 6.0, soon to be 6.5, but any later versions have saslite as a plugin, and sas hair is amazing. better than p5 hair, which won't even export. every app has it's drawbacks. i think combining our skill will override any drawbacks we might encounter.
I don't know if you realize that there are no plugins for P5 like the PPP plugins at this time. What this means is you either have to render in Poser 5 ..... bad... bad idea or import and rig the characters in the app of your choice. Poser 5 is so slow and inconsistent that it is going to make it very hard to get much done and I'm one of the ones that P5 doesn't crash one every five minutes. I have rigged Mike, Vic, Steph, Posette and Dork in C4D. They work great, but what a pain in a** to get it done. Time wise, I would guess I spent as much time rigging the figures as I would have trying to get a decent animation done. But since I'm in that 70% category, who am I to offer any help or advice. Good luck with your idea. Ed
i think that by the time we get groups set up and a story plotted, written and then storyboarded, (all the while, another team can be making up the characters and designs and stuff), maybe the ppp will be updated. i know cl says they're working on it right now (personally, i feel poser should have the pp built into it...). this project isn't going to happen overnight, but i know we can get it done!
I don't think rendering in P5 is impossibe. If ya don't use cloth or hair the speed is acceptible (at least for me) after the latest patch. Then again I'm comparing that to Truespace 4 not the wonderful lightwave renderer :) More troublesome are the bugs that cause inconsistant performance and just plain bad stuff to happen. I'd probably pitch in on this if I wasn't so deeply invested in my current project. sorry. :)

hey everyone! i'm starting this thread as a result of something discussed in a different thread called "serious movies made using poser?" i know that everyone is busy with their own projects, that's a given based on the nature of what we do. it seems to me that poser is an awfully powerful program, yet the most that we see from it on a daily basis is 3d porn. i think, if we try and combine our talents, we can make a 3d production using poser, as well as the other programs that we have, that will at least rival what we've seen on tv. i think this will do good for many reasons: 1- skills will be honed 2- it will build a bigger sense of community here 3- it will offer experience and insight to those seeking to do one-(wo)man productions. people will have an overall better sense of how to make it happen. 4- IT WILL GAIN RECOGNITION FOR POSER, and with any luck, curious labs will make a bigger jump from p5 to p6, even bigger than the jump from p4 to p5. if you want to be a part of this project, it's easy. just post here what you can offer. from there we can split into design teams, writing teams, storyboarding teams, and sound teams, as well as editing teams. i'm not talking about a massive production to challange ilm or dreamworks or anything... yet. ;) but if we could do a short production, maybe 10 minutes or less, that would give everyone a great idea of how to produce a real show, and like i said, it would draw some much needed attention to poser. let me start: rich novak (people call me ren all the time) i'm a writer, i can storyboard a little, and i'm about to get p5. my main package is lightwave, probably the best out-of-the-box render on the planet. who's next?
