Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 08 12:39 am)
Yep, you can use the hands library, but it has some weirdness when you load a pose and select the left hand, IIRC. On the other hand (sorry) you could always buy PBooost.

If I do use the camera and rename the files cm2 They will still work as poses even though poser is reading the files as cameras? Hmmm. I think I will pass on the hands library. I have a hard enough time with poses without any other hangups. I have heard of Pboost what exactly does it do? And is it in the Marketplace?
What version of Poser do you have? Poser 5 makes it possible to create alternative libraries outside of Poser in any location that you want. Most of my stuff is in the PP 4 library which I can easily access from P5. When that if full I will start storing stuff in other locations, if I ever get to the point where I want to uninstall Pro Pack I can copy the entire runtime library to another directory and do away with the program. Right now, though, until all the P5 bugs are worked out I am keeping it on my system.
PBooost isn't haphazard at all if you set it up correctly and make sure all your texture paths are squeaky clean. Seriously, I wouldn't be without it now.

Thanks a bunch, I will try out PBoost I think. Knowing my luck, I would rename something wrong and screw it all up. LOL! I cant get PBoost until hubby gets paid but maybe until then, I will try moving a few files at a time to say the camera library to see how that works as well. :) Oh and btw I have Poser 4 (Someone asked up in the thread.) I have heard too many discouraging things about the bugs in 5 right now, so I will wait until it is all straightened out.
Advice before buying/installing/using PBooost. Go to Freestuff and get the Compatibility test util and Correct Reference. Run the Compatibility test first, then Correct Reference. Then, run the Compatibility test again. That should tell you how PBooost will run on your system and whether or not it's worth buying. Hogwarden (the author) has some useful tutorials and tips at his site, too. The link is in the free utils.

I have Pose full, just brought it down from 262 folders to 255 today (that's the max number it will handle without going nuts). I have all clothing MATs in Camera and all character and hair tex MATs in Hands. Okay, the 'pick a hand, any hand' is a drag, but it works fine. EXCEPT for one thing: if you have a MOR pose that controls Body dials (can be done if you construct the pose file manually), the Body dials will not be changed if the pose is run from Hands. If you move the pose back to Pose, it works OK! Ths is the only anomaly I know of so far. So my Hands is nearly full and Camera is filling up fast.... .... Next will be Faces I guess. I'm stuck with P4 for a while yet. I won't be buying P5 until the price here in Sweden stops being double that in the US. No way. Hell, I can other apps here for the same money as in the US, why should I let the Scandinavian Poser distributor get rich? :] Fish
I'm not acting like you're an idiot. I suggest you contact the program author if you're getting errors. If you get the file lock problem when using PBooost, use the Deep File Editor to reset the texture paths. It can be tedious, but it does the job.

I suppose you could set up some batch files to rename directories before starting Poser - sort of a poor man's way of doing what PBoost does when your system doesn't support switching while Poser is running. In your libraries folder, you'd have a batch file like "Fantasy.bat," that would be something like: rem ----------------- Fantasy.bat ----------------- ren pose "pose-old" ren "pose-fantasy" pose start /w ....Poser ren pose "pose-fantasy" ren "pose-old" pose exit rem ----------------- Fantasy.bat ----------------- As long as you don't mind not being able to switch from within Poser, you should be able to set as many of these as you like. With a little more work, you can combine them all in one bat file with a menu to select the configuration to run. Of course, this assumes, that you're organized enough to know up front which set of poses you want to work with in that session, which probably eliminates most people most of the time :-)

I bought PBoost and thought it would be good to orginize the stuff. But I have win2000 and can't switch in poser and found it was very confusing and my sysmtem didn't like it on poser. When I bought it I knew I couldn't switch in Poser, but I thought the program, would orginize the files. Then I relelized I would have to do that.:O( My poser files are all over the place. Outside of poser I have pose files I take out and put back in when needed. I use to just delete files I wasn't using, but now I can't find anything on the tons of CD's I have. I'm so damn old that it's a wonder I remember my name when I get up in the morning!!! Then to try and remember where things are is terrible. Remember Henry Fonda in On Golden Pond= said" You think getting old is funny? Somedays I don't even know if I can pee" :O) Good Luck what ever you try. Did I just write something?????

Suggestion: Create a subdirectory called "Little_used". Select all the pose folders you very seldom use and dump them in there. Probably there are only 20 or so that are really useful all the time. Of course, now you can't get at them from Poser. But when you find you really want one of them again, move the folder back into the main library. It saves sanity.
I just purchased PCBoost and at this point not sure how effective it's going to be for me. I ran the compatibility thingie and it indicates that I should be able to switch back and forth...well duh, it doesn't. I'm running WinXPPro. If I can think something through enough in the beginning to organize the stuff, and work from those folders that are loaded, I'm fine. But if not, I have to save my file, close Poser, open PCBoost, move the stuff, open Poser, open file and start all over again. I haven't even looked at the Deep File Editor yet except to see...yep, it's there, too complicated for this old person....Leah, I hear ya hun!
I did spend some time with it Peter, and it did the corrections of which there were only three file directories that needed attention. My problem is that I can't use it and Poser at the same time to switch back and forth. It is indeed a time saver, and is a lot quicker than manually moving from window to window...but it's still new enough to me that these old bones need to take more time to try and make it work the way I want it to work. :)

I know this has been discussed before but I want to make sure I understood right. My pose library is so huge that I cannot even get to anything near the bottom. LOL If I were to move some of the mat files and such to a different library such as camera, would these still work as pose files? And is the camera library the only other one I could use?
