WandM, I agree. I don't know whether it's sad or funny that you've chosen a public area like the forum to bring to everyone's attention what they already know about my commenting style, or whether or not you agree with my comments, but I'm not willing to turn this into a slanging match of any nature. All I'd like to say is thank you for the advertisement on the fact that within my criticisms I am quite happy to give honest opinions and not just sit there patting backs - in fact, I actually do take the time to praise your earlier picture which I thought was very good. I am used to being able to pass technical comments on pictures, which have so far been received well, and have received several IM's thanking me for my technical judgement. If any of the mods feel that my comment is out of order and in no way constructive, I'm quite happy for it either be requested that I delete it, or that it is deleted par se. As stated, my comment wasn't in any way an attack on yourself, it was a genuine attempt at offering technical advice reagrding that particular image. I presume that if people leave their pictures open for comment they are also open to constructive advice on improving their pictures instead of just "ooooh, lovely" comments. That said, I'm going to make no further public comment on this issue for reasons of which you are aware from a 3rd party. (",)
First, if you never contribute anything to a forum, please don't post your cat peves here either. Jordy wasn't at all rude or unfriendly, in fact, it was a piece of very honest, contructive critisism. There's nothing wrong with Jordy, nor with his comment. So posting a message like this really says more about your attitude than it does about Jordy's.
Rork - ok...lets not get carried away here. There is something most definitely wrong with Jordy! As for what Mike wrote, it looked honest, constructive and instructive to me. That's what this forum is all about. Constructive and honest critiquing of our work so that we can improve and grow. Holy crap...I think I just defended Jordy. That has got to be a sign of the apocolypse. shakes head and walks away -=>Donald
I kinda agree with WANDM. Yeah Joardy noticed the pic but apparently the subject matter escaped him! Dude why don't you do us all a favor and avoid commenting on cat pictures entirely. Evidently they bother you and you can't relate to them. It's not a problem there are plenty of other things to comment upon. Sorry but I offered my 50 cents worth both here and at the gallery. Here is what I said. "Jordy. Sigh. I read your critique - BUT I really wonder if you get the point of the picture at all! The point was that this cat setteled down and went to sleep on the side walk - cracked pavement ect. Maybe she could have touched out the sidewalk but what would be the point. I think you are trying too hard. Yes there is light but I hardely think it is too bright. Now for my two cents. I wish the picture was no so close. I think it would look better to see the entire cat. Otherwise it seems fine to me. Bsteph" Jordy. I KNOW you stated that her moving the cat would not work because the cat would probably leave. SO why comment that you disliked the location of the cat at all!? After all she can't move it! I guess you could have commented that the background is too harsh and she maybe should replace it with grass of something via PS. However I think the harsh ground was her point. The sunlight...Well what can I say I didn't think it was that bright. I didn't see any blown out section soo it must be alright. Nevertheless you feelings and impressions are valid because it is your impression. I guess to me it's silly to make the critique 'The sky is too dark' when the subject is a picture of the moon. Bsteph
I think that was a really good comment from Jordy. If somebody would spend such a time commenting my image, I would be flattered. Jordy gets the points from honesty too. It's way more useful to say what's not looking good in image, than just say Man that's one cute cat. Everybody remember that old story about Emperors new clothes... .n
Antoonio. You know I like your stuff and I think we understand each other. Plus we have similar taste in movies. So I think I can say this and not insult you. What if I commented on your - Tundra Just Before - picture. http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=282666&Start=1&Artist=Antoonio&ByArtist=Yes What if I said that I realize that the land is supposed to be bleak BUT the LONE TREE is DISTRACTING from the empty ground and the sun looks too round.! How would you feel and what would you think. Now, please combine that comment with previous statements which indicated that I dislike tree pictures and feel that IF one posts a picture of a tree it should be properly composed and presented What would you feel and what would you think. Would you feel frustrated, sad, would you feel that someone does not get the point, or would you just give up one usefull comments entirely? Bsteph
ah, Brian, Brian, Brian....... You'll be aware of most of this from our convo, but I thought I'd answer here too ;) HONESTLY - people, I have NOTHING against cat pictures. The fact I mentioned another picture by the same artist may go some way towards showing that, and I honestly think the same about other pictures in their gallery which are, quite frankly, bloody good. NOTE - The following comments are generalisations and DO NOT relate to the picture I commented on Some people think I'm on a crusade against cat pics. Nope. It is merely unfortunate that cat pictures have become the typical example of shots that are just taken without any kind of planning or aforethought. If you imagine the same image with another subject, then usually it would not receive anywhere near the number of hits. At the top of the gallery it says ".........post their work for review and critique by their peers, and learn new techniques while developing the skills that allow each individual to realize their own unique artistic vision." If people don't want to learn, or develop any new skills, then fair enough, the gallery has a different meaning to them, and there are plenty of web sites out there that welcome similar pictures with open arms, but without offering any development for the photographer - something I see as a key thing at Rosity. But for those of us do that want to stretch ourselves, I will certainly be here to lend my (albeit limited and sometimes controversial!) knowledge.... and until I comment on someone's work, I don't know whether or not they want to develop...... That's it, I've shut up. (",)
sharing the pipe too You know you can say anything B-stepper, no harm done. Got your point, I tought this matter from different direction. But, as surely Jordy hates cats, lets cool down and let this subject be. ;oP .n ps. when we where kids and wanted to try smoking, we used tea leafs inside of newspaper roll. Mmmmmm, tobacco substituteeee.
