Hi all! I am trying to create some new textures and bump maps for a castle wall I'm creating. I can't figure out how to make the textures straight on a cylinder. When I add a mapped bump the texture always comes out diagonal! What am I doing wrong? TIA Linda

Try to select Cylindrical for the mapping. If this doen't work and if the tower were created outside Vue, create an UV map for it (with UVmapper. Guitta

Unfortunately I've tried all the bump mapping possibilities and none of them work. The tower was entirely created in Vue too. How exasperating! Oh well. Thanks for your time!

The material you show in your material window, seems diagonal too. So it comes out diagonal. If you like, I can try if you send it to me at gebe@renderosity.com

I was just about to send the image to you, when I realized it IS diagonal! Well, part of it is and that's what's showing up in the bumps. I just didn't see it. Guess I'd better try another one (and get some new glasses). Thanks so much!

You may want to try this: Create a 'new' texture from scratch. By this I mean, in Vue 4.12, reset the material (right-click on material preview and choose reset material from the pop-up), and then set the various material channels. This fixed a problem I had once (with a brick texture oddly enough).

Hummm, interesting. I'll see if it works! Thanks Charles!

Frenchkiss, before you do complicated things, just try to rotate your existing texture a bit. Don't forget then to rotate the bump too. :-)Guitta

Oh cool! I never saw that! It should help for mapping textures on planes too. Thanks Guitta!

Thanks for that last one Guitta! It never ceases to amaze how one can use software like this for months and have a blind spot for some less frequently used items on the menu. I had totally forgotted these rotation and twist features existed. This FAQ section which I am slowly working my way through is proving very helpful and interesting.
