Subject: Camera Problems

I have a recurring problem with my camera animations. I create the trajectory and keyframes, and enter the various camera attributes for the keyframes. So far so good. I maybe add a few more objects or modify existing ones. I come back to my camera animation and the camera has changed position at several keyframes (if I set it to look left, for example....it changes to look right). Thank you for any help on this one Arnold

you could try to set the codinates to unity at the keyframes where the camera flips. I don't know if it'll work, but it sometimes does when objects change shape, size or rotation by themselves.

I'm not very advanced when it comes to animation but I do know what you're talking about. You could try linking your camera to a particular object. Then when you want to move it around, unlink it, move it and relink it to either that object or another one. I like to use objects as anchors and find that it helps.

Oh yeah...and I almost forgot...you could just create an object to link the camera too. Just assign it a "null" or "hidden" attribute so that when you render it isn't visible. This not only gives you something to lock the camera onto, but something that won't interfere with your scene. It also takes care of the problem in my previous suggestion of linking and delinking the camera to other objects whenever you want to change the POV.

Thanks Rayraz & Bulldawg66 I suspected I might get the suggestion to track an object with the camera..............my problem in this particular scene is that the camera is moving level over low ground (camera pointing forward), then rising up above a mountain (camera pointing down), then dropping down to low ground (camera pointing forward), and the reverse on the return journey. So is it possible to track an object when there's all this camera gyration going on?

You could animate a null-object (could be any object) the way you would like the camera to move and then place the camera slightly in front of it (so that you don't see the null in the camera's view) and parent the camera to the null. The null will now move and the camera will follow it like it's glued to the null. If the null doesn't flip the camera linked to it should also not flip.

Also in animation (Attributes) chech show always and show as ribbon in your null object. that way you can see what your null object/camera trajectory will be.

Also make the null object invisible so it can't render. Click on the attributes dialog and make it invisible. - Scott
